Here in Romania I think is not popular at all, and all of the guys I know are watching are VR46 fans.

Eurosport is broadcasting MotoGP, so 2-3 commercial breaks during races...

In Australia not as popular as it should be. Of my my friends only a handful are GP fans, and even then only periodically. I am lucky at the moment to have a motard racer, #1 privateer in qld and quite competitive nationally as a work colleague and we often chew the fat on Mondays talking about the previous round.

Since moving bush going on 6 years back I have not found anyone that watches MotoGP outside of the motorcycle shop world, and even then many do not watch road race but Supercross.

When on the coast however it was far greater in terms of people you could find that knew of the sport and followed it.

As for the motard dude ......... not Steve? (cannot think of surname - once picked a bike off him at Newcastle)

Nah he's not named Steve. Won't name him though.

Nah all good.

Was thinking if the same guy just ask him if he has gotten strong enough to lift the bike off himself type of thing ............ get the mind wandering.

As for him motarding ............ shame that the scene nationally is not as strong as it is a brilliant form of motorcycle sports ........ IMO here, but the best form of two wheeled action

I concur. The racing is tight and highly entertaining. I remember going to the nationals some years ago at the tennis centre in Sydney and thinking this is gonna take off. Sadly not. I often go to the races up my way and I would be sometimes the only spectator not family or directly involved in the club.

Most of our top overseas riders have come from dirt riding. And its still fairly possible to access clubs for that. Maybe the young ons dont see motard as part of their progress plan?

I see it as an opening. You can rock up to the smaller clubs on a cbr250 if you want and just run road. My local club often runs come and try days where members will lend you their bike and gear for a handful of laps. Some just haven't the time or the coin required to get involved. Especially up here where it is not uncommon to drive for 8-12 hours for a simple interclub meet.

Used to work at the Tard meets whenever they were held in NSW on weekends plus did a couple of Victorian ones as well as MotoMayhem plus ran a couple of track days at Marulan

The Tards are easily the most spectacular (closely followed by road race sidecars) and are a cheap entry level but for some reason, we live in a country fascinated by the high performance sports bikes.

Heck, I remember the St George 4 hour race a while back where the ACT Supermotard club had a 4 bike entry. Race run at Wakefield park and I recall two seriously distinct things.

1. A stunt rider who entered into a team for fun was the fastest in the wet on a CBR900 complete with crash bars.

2. Every one of the ACT motard boys would leave the track on T9 and re-enter at T10, often overtaking other riders in the process. Shame was that Race Direction had to chat with them due to complaints and suggest that they stay on the tar stuff -- and man, they were quick
