Toni Elias will make his MotoGP comeback at this weekend's United States Grand Prix, deputising for the injured Hector Barbera at the Pramac Ducati squad.
Elias, 29, raced for the LCR Honda squad in grand prix racing's premier category last year, but stepped back down to Moto2, a series he won in 2010, for this year after losing his ride to Stefan Bradl.
However, since splitting with the Aspar squad earlier this month, the Spaniard has been without a full-time ride.
Elias has 96 MotoGP starts to his name and has claimed a single race win and five other podiums in that time.
Barbera, who underwent surgery on a broken leg last weekend, is expected to be out of action for four to six weeks.
