GP bike in WSB

ducati say they have built a road version of a v4 engined moto gp bike which will go on sale to the general public very soon once it is homoligated (sold more than 150) they will enter it into wsb (next year)

Funny you say that because I was thinking about that about a week ago. To be honest I can't see them doing it. Sure they will win the championship on it but now a days the real draw for manufacturers in production based classes is the "Win on Sunday Sell on Monday" idea. Obviously they would get some interest when they dominate every race, however they aren't going to move a lot of bikes with a price tag projected to be 50,000 or 60,000 euros. Especially when that much power is overkill and the new GSXR 1000s are nearly comparable to a slow MotoGP bike for a considerable amount less.
 
uuum i know not as has much most of u but the best thing about moto gp bikes is the big power so if dukes enter a bike into wsb they should win but the handling
should be a broblem, so they will slow certain things down, but more info needed

dont know if anyone read MCN a few week's ago it does look like Honda are planning on a road going RCV,so it does look like Honda are not going to be left behind, i for one would love one !

The only problem with a street Desmosidici or RCV is I think you would run out of fresh underpants.
 
That RCV sounds like the bike for me

dont think Ducati care about selling the bike they were only going to make a handfull anyway
i cant understand why they named the bike after that black guy that sang the isralites "desmond decca"

since the rules of motogp dictate that the bikes must be prototypes the a road going version will have to be majorly changed - unless theres an evolution in motogp bikes coming in the near future (remember the wcm ban?).i can't see there being any road going version of either bike until they change the current 1 - for example if honda change from the v5 to the v6 that was rumoured before.
 
The rule stating that the bikes must be prototypes refers to them not being based on pre existing machines. The problem WCM had was they found engine components off an R1 inside. I remember reading an article when Ducati announced they would release a street version of the Desmosidici that it would be legal because the prototype can be the basis for production bikes. If that weren't the case wouldn't Honda already be in trouble? They claim to have taken swingarm technology off the RC211V and put it on the CBR600RR and CBR1000RR.
 
I went down to my local pub this afternoon to buy a case of beer (I live in a rural community and the local town has a population of about 2000 people) and I nearly fell over when I saw not one, but two desmosidici's in the main street. I did a quick turnaround in my car and had a look at them ... it was actually the first time I had seen one (make that two) in the flesh .... fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck .... they are a sensational looking bike! I had a chat to the two blokes riding them ... boys with lots of money who love their toys!

Apparently only 50 odd have made their way onto Australian shores. To see two parked side by side near where I live just floored me! Happy days!

Any links to this speculation? Why would Ducati want to run a 800cc MGP bike in WSBK when then have a winning formula already?

They and/or the flamminis may be wary of the imputations of favouritism/unfair advantage, or they may be worried about the potential of the aprilia etc.

I am confused about where the homologation rules are now; they seemed last year to require larger numbers and preclude the ducati desmosedici, but I gather have been fairly relaxed as far as the aprilia is concerned.

There would not be a problem selling an 990 rcv211v v5 as there not used in motogp now. the rc212v is an 800 v4.

The 4 year old speculation?
That went down as follows:
Ducati: Allow us 1200cc twins or we'll homologate the 990.
Flamini: Ok but then we up the production limit to 3000 as well, blocking any other attempt to homologate the GP-monsterbike.

Aprilia will produce the numbers during the year. It was never a requirement to have the actual number before homologation.
 
Aprilia this year is comming out with the RSV4 (this has thrown a a monkey wrench into Ducati. . Ducati is not going to stay behind They will use an engine similar to the Desmosedici cheaper bike, less carbon fiber and less exotic materials. Will be very interesting...

The last I read Ducati and Ferrari are coming together to make a new twin. Nothing about it other than that has been said but they aren't worried about Aprilia.

Spotting a road goin Desmosidici is obvoiusly like waiting for a bus.

Where are the photos???? With out photos it didn't happen. Surely you know this rule!
