Gibernau's a hot property

SETE GIBERNAU appears to be the hottest property in MotoGP right now, at least he is if you listen to what Sete himself has been saying.

Speaking to motogp.com, the Spaniard said that not only has he been testing the Ducati MotoGP bike recently but he has also been approached by a clutch of interested MotoGP teams.

He said: “There are various possibilities on the table for me from different teams. However, like I have said before, I live on a day-by-day basis. Competing regularly again would be a big effort and sacrifice, and I can´t forget about that just because of the excitement of riding again.

“Anything can happen but, for the moment, nobody has presented me with everything that I need in order to return.”

Sete wasn't having any of the speculation that he is about to replace Marcon Melandri on the red bikes soon (although everyone is saying that he will), he added: “I´m nobody´s substitute. If there is a seat available, then one would have to think it over, but the delicate situation in which Marco finds himself demands that we treat the subject with a high level of respect.

“Obviously the idea is attractive, but you have to give credit to the riders that are racing at the moment. I don´t know if I would be at that level, and I have to be aware of this. Perhaps, were I to ride again, my goals would not necessarily include winning races.”

Yeah, right.

If his goals don't include winning races, then what he hell would he be riding for? Thats an extremely lame statement, imo.

Ask every single guy out there, even friggin' West, and they'll tell you that their goal is to win races.

Come on Sete. If you're gonna come back at least show us that you've got some balls.

Actually West was quoted as saying he would like to be inside the top ten

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE <div class='quotemain'>"The Sachsenring is a circuit that should suit our Ninja ZX-RR very well, and that should stand us in good stead this weekend," said the Australian. "After Assen I'm determined to finish inside the top ten, and I hope it will be possible to improve on my tenth place finish at Donington this weekend."

They all want to win of course but when asked what their goals are they may tell you this and that. I was a huge critic of Lorenzo when he was speaking all his ........ about just wanting to gain experience and winning this year was not his goals.

As far as Ginerneau goes, I don't think that he is as hot a commodity as he thinks he is.

Fine. West can fall in the same category as Gibernau and Lorenzo then. I guess I gave him a bit more credit than he deserved.

What the hell? If you aren't racing to win then what is the point of racing at all?

ladies and gentlemen and pinky...

we have a winner!

they all want to win for sure, but you have to set yourself realistic goals you can achieve. theres no point setting your sights too high too early, else you end more demoralised when you can't achieve them straight off.

Winning IS the only thing these guys are there for, but when you are in a field of riders who pretty much are capeable of winning it is hard to say your goal is to go out and win all the time. The points system is in place so when the riders are consistant they are rewarded for the efforts and like Nicky did in 06.

tbh, i reckon its fair comment on sete's part. after being away for so long, coming back and winning instantly isn't a realistic goal. by setting his targets low, i think he'd do better because there would be less pressure on him.

but saying that......troy bayliss valencia '06 anyone?

but in his case he'd already been racing all year.

I wonder what that may be that he "needs"?

points is marco is 100% useless on the ducati at the moment. his opinion count for .... atm. no way will ducati listen to him when it comes to development.

why develop a bike for maelandri for, so he can make 2 second improvement, in the meantime yamaha would of made another 1 second improvement and he would still be 3 seconds behind the leader...

ducati dont want to be mid pack anymore after tasting sucess, .... even podiums dont suffice. they need wins and championships.

thats why sete would be much more usefull than marco, he may not be able to win, lets face it to win he would basically need to beat stoner, set lap records and be world champion - is that realistic for him after 18 months out of action and pushing 40? no i dont think so. but he would be invaluable in helping stoner with development testing tires on race day etc. just like edwards was for rossi for so many years, basically a lacky for rossi.

Sete is just trying to up his cache. Of course he wants to ride well but he knows that he has been gone for almost 2yrs. I don't think even Rossi would expect to come back after 2yrs and win races right off the bat. Sete trying to get his foot in the door. Either with Ducati or Kawak or Suzuki. I think he is trying to keep his options open or more like make a few more options in case ducati doesn't want him at the end of the season.

So why not talk yourself up to the paddock.

I think Sete is already beaten in his mind regardless of what ride he gets. If at the beginning your setting limitations and low expectations, regardless of age, time away etc, you're setting yourself up for disappointment in this game. Look at West.....he admits that he just doesn't have the confidence.....Sete is going to do exactly what he did in 06 if he gets back on that Duc.

Ducati should sign Sete up to a new Ducati stunt team to entertain crowds between races.
Wheelies, stoppies or endo's and all those entertaining tricks that stunt riders do Sete has demonstrated before on a Ducati

Dude, you totally read my mind! That's exactly what I thought when I read:

Haha. Damn what a terrible crash. I call that one "Bowling in Spain".

With weight being the obvious downside, I'm surprised that past and present GP bike designers were never compelled (especially after Sete's accident) to install hand guards on race bikes. Acerbis makes aerodynamic components for supermotards and it often prevents snapping a clutch or brake lever if the bike was put down....if they had used them, it would have prevented this pile up all together.....

Dude, never thought of that. Cool. Yeah, WTF?

Well it got rid of Sete at least.

True, but if you think about it, Marco hasn't been the same since then either.
