Fav. riders bike affect what you purchase.

Do you actually buy a Honda because Hayden rides one, or Pedrosa. Do you buy the Yamaha because Rossi races one? Do you buy a Kawa because Hopper races one. Does what you favorite racer ride really affect what bike and dealership you go into when buying a new bike?

im a roosi fan but always went for kawasaki's or suzuki's. i think most go for bike looks then performance figures.

I agree, but also, the bike the riders ride are can not be bought for the road. Plus, if you wanted numbers, then a Honda or Suzuki is the way to go over a Yamaha.

I don't personally own a bike, but hubby does and he reckons it's the opposite.
He's always owned Yamahas, so he always supports the Yamaha riders, whoever is riding for them.

always owned suzukis with a honda here or there. then i got a KTM ....

oddly enough, i support suzuki....and KTM in the smaller classes but NOT honda!.....

so, no, i buy depending on how the dealer has/does treat me....all the bikes i have owned have been close enough to the same in terms of performance with its competitors, so IMO its down to "feel". and the suzuki dealer was the best at making me feel good about buying his product....

nope...cause what WE would get is NOTHING like what they use....that would be WSBK
<

I've owned at least 1 of all the Japanese bikes......it's about feel.

I go for the feel as well.

I've always been a Rossi fan, and in 2003 I was in the market for a new 600. At the time suzuki was to old, new Kawasaki was too uncomfortable, and honada rr had NO feel/power. Yamaha had everything I wanted and won my money. If I wouldn't have been able to test ride, I would have not bought anything.

Irrespective of what riders were doing I always wanted an R1, so after my ZX-6R I got an 04 R1 and still have her.

Always been a Kawasaki man ever since I saw Don Rickman(remember him?) on a prototype KT250 trials bike.

I'm the opposite - my bike choice actually reflect which rider I show an intrest in as opposed to the otherway around.

Now that I have an SXV I've started following Van Der Bosch a bit

That said - I've never owned a Yam and I'm a massive Rossi/Haga fan

Ive owned stuff by all the japs and a few of the Euros, I wouldnt buy a bike just coz of who rides it. However, Ive followed Stefan Peterhansel for years, an he did ride Blue Tenere's, so yeah that was an influence on my last bike, but also coz the Tenere has always had such a good rep as a desert sled.

But... I bought an Aprilia 650 trailie over a BMW because I canny stand the whole Ewan and Charlie ....., and would never buy a Shark helmet coz they were always associated with Foggy!

So there you go, I will avoid things that are linked to folk that I dont like, but not nessesarily buy what the guys I'm following ride.

Course Im jealous! A major manufacturer giving you a bike and support to ride off round the world! I can understand with Charlie, he's never done .... all and probably couldnt afford a bike himself, but Obi Wan!!!! I'd be surprised if he couldnt afford it.

And Ewans Scottish so he's probably ok, but "actor" Charlie Boorman???????? I once re-enacted the battle of Culloden for a Whisky advert to be shown in Canada, that gives me as impressive an acting cv as charlie!

i see your point Basspete but at least Obi-wan did something good with his fame..
he could have used his status to be a real prick instead but used it to make lots of people interested in bikes....
and i do agree with you about charlie, didnt know who he was, then read the long way round and still dont know why hes a "celebrity"...
they should have bought KTM's and done it anyway...
