We keep hearing current riders, legends, spectators, insiders, etc. calling for reduced electronics, but is Dorna listening? LINK

Lets hope that guy going to Ducati can persuade Dorna. I for one think the oppurtunity for 2012 is there so Dorna need to annouce sooner rather than later 2012 will begin the new old era of non-electronic influenced racing.

stupid thread. Of course Dorna wont listen

Some here have been going on about such think as TC for ages but were just dismissed as boppers. BUT now Nicky Hayden points it out its right for debate

the guys/companies doing all the developing with electronics are not listening......that is like oil rig companies looking forward to solar powered cars.

Plus few electronics will separate the men from the boys.....and the new idea is close racing with spec everything and tons of rider aids.

Gay, I've agreed with Rossi on it, but he wasn't the first to mention it if you must know. Dismissed as Boppers? Its news to me this was a Bopper theme. If it is then I'll take up their plight.
<
The Legends started their grumblings way before the current riders made it a popular outcry. And yes, you know I'm the ultimate fanboy compa. If Hayden says it, its as good as if Jesus Christ said it himself.

The MotoGP World Championship returns to Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca on July 22-24, 2011. Be there ... so I can knock some sense into you.

Old news........different voice.

Unfortunately the recent events may just put a stop on a ban or limitation of electronics, with the safety commissions no doubt more worried than ever.

Hopefully though common sense may prevail, as their original argument for introducing the 800's has proved to be completely flawed.

I had exactly the same thoughts mate but didn't want to tempt fate by saying it.

I would bet that for the 2012 season something has to happen with the electronics. Reason being that there will be a possibility of different cc"s being employed with the bikes. Rather than have all this mish mash of cc configurations they might at dorna do themselves a favor and stop the fuel limits, and try and reduce the electronics so that the will be more emphasis on the rider. I also think that will be another area of cost reduction as well since we all know some of these guys have the electronics down pat while others seem to struggle still.

I can't get a read on the rules situation. I want to believe that the fuel rules will change (why else do you need a bore limit?), but the MSMA have said on so many occasions that they absolutely will not participate if the fuel restriction are changed (by MSMA I mean mainly Honda). But, honestly, I'm not sure what's going on b/c the MSMA have allowed Dorna to create these CRT teams. The CRT teams probably won't beat the factory teams anytime soon, but the MSMA have been so tacit in regards to the fuel and engine advantages, that it makes you wonder what's going on.

Is the MSMA hamstrung by the corporate directors who are playing nice with the politicians? are the allowing the riders (who seem to be making a coordinated effort) to bad mouth electronics in public b/c they secretly want the directors to realize that the bad press isn't worth the technological development?

or is something completely different in the works no that Dorna are hiring a consultant to work with the MSMA regarding matters of mass production?

Very unclear right now.

@ Talpa. Bashing electronics and fuel regs never gets old!!

I say .... the msma and honda. They got their way and where has it got the sport?. They have pull because of the amount of bikes they field. If we ditched half of the rules we have that make the sport so expensive and elitist, think how many other manufacturers would participate. ?? So many have tried or indicated they would like to but soon shy'ed away when dorna anounce there "cost" cutting rules.

messed up thing about this whole situation that Honda has helped create is they have not won a championship in the 800 era, they should relax their crack in 2012 and let the riders dictate how they want to race....power to the people folks!

yeah, then they might actually win something apart from contracts.

Motogp is "the" development formula. If they take away all the developments then, what will they have over say WSBK?

Its the way it has allways been. To be honest I find it more justifiable these days with all the electronics development than in the days when GP bikes were two strokes and everything you bought in the shop was a lumbering great tractor of a 4 stroke. Nothing said "lame" to me more than seeing a Doohan or Rossi Replica ( Sticker kit ) CBR

Electronic control etc. is where the development is these days, so meh its all good by me. I don't think it would matter an aweful lot to the outcomes of the races, just those who have had least riding without electronics control would have the jump on the others at first and those that have been riding with TC the longest will perhaps have more offs.

I agree. Povol said something a while back that if they changed the fuel regs to increase the power output, the MSMA would stay anyway (in the short term at least) b/c they have nowhere else to market their bikes. They didn't even leave SBK after the Flamminis took over WSBK. They actually have to sell SBKs.

Motorcycling to me (even moto racing) is a creative endeavor so the ability to build a wide variety of designs is important to me. I want to hear lots of different engine notes and see lots of different bikes. I also want to see the riders in different riding positions, utilizing different styles, and riding different lines. I think this is just naturally how motorcycling works b/c the person on the bike is such an integral part of the equation. We are all different so it makes sense that we would all prefer different stuff and ride it differently.

The current formula doesn't reflect the reality of motorcycling, and while I approve of the new 1000cc formula, it's actually less tolerant of design than the outgoing 800cc formula. Someone needs to put the fun back into the sport. Motorcycles are not cars so there is really no reason to specify the engine bore and cylinder count. WSBK has proven than many different engine layouts and designs can all be very competitive. MotoGP should be the prototype version of MotoGP, imo.
