richo u need to lay off the vegimite!

Morgo, i was under the impression that winning the championship gave a rider the entitlement to first pick of any number they wanted! Is this not the truth? However, even if you could have first pick as the champion, i think the boss's wouldn't allow anyone else to take the 46 because it would be so unsporting.

It wouldn't happen simply because Yamaha/Rossi's lawyers would line up one hell of a lawsuit. That number has become Rossi's identity, and has, I reckon, high commercial value. I bet every single person would think of Rossi when they thought of the number 46. It will probably never be worn by another rider, because the FIM will probably do what they did with Schwantz 34 and Kato's 74. With all the merchandise sales and things it should be quite a valuable asset. In fact it suprises me that Rossi doesn't own the rights to the number, at least for the next few years?

Yes of course that would be the case with the 46 being what it is, but theoretically does the champion not get first choice (with the exceptions of special numbers).

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Pirkkalan GP @ Dec 20 2006, 06:30 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>Skip the top class...just look at that 250 list!!! Maybe i'm getting over excited or am suffering serious GP weekend withdrawal symptoms..but WOW...there are like 17 brilliant riders in there compared to the GP list in which I "only" get excited by 12 of the riders...but anyway. 250s are gonna rival MotoGP next year for entertainment....

I'm going to have to write their names - just cause it'll be fun.

Lorenzo, Aoyama, De Angelis, luthi, Locatelli, Bautista, Nieto, Lai, Dovizioso, Kallio, Linfoot, Laverty, Coghlan, Simoncelli, Simon, Aoyama!! and Barbera. Then I'm sure somebody will be able to argue that I've missed somebody from these brilliant riders.

(well ok a couple of those are just counted cause they are brits)...

Time to go back to my hibernation....

I hear you man... But the truth is Luthi, Bautista, Kallio, and Simon are rookies... looking at how Lorenzo performed in his rookie year, it would still be awesome to see if some of the rookies rough it with the veterans in some tracks.. the rider's fav track... like how rookie Lorenzo would rough de Angelis..

Wow... if Bradley did take the championship... he would be like the next Vale or Dani... I will respect him as much if he gets a top 5 this season... and go for the win in the next..

Geez that's being a bit generous

The champ cannot pick any number after winning the championship. Either same number, number 1 or another number which is not taken by any other rider in the line up.
