Engine upgrade vital for Yamaha, says Jerry Burgess

Oops, yeah, I just read your clarification above.

Uhm, about Burgess, I guess I was like most everybody, and thought he was a no-nonsense kinda guy. That is until I heard him take a dig at Stoner saying he looked like he was already riding for Honda based on what he thought was Casey's unwillingness to push the Ducati (echoing Rossi who also questioned Stoner's commitment to ride the Ducati at 100%). I actually asked him to clarify this when I met him at Indy. He said, what's to clarify, he riders and just follows people around, specifically he mentioned he followed Rossi. I reminded him that Stoner had recently had some front end tucks and was probably pushing the limit already but didn't want to suffer a crash. I told him maybe he was giving all he could to just keep up with Vale, as oppose to being able to pass him on a bike that had very documented front end issues. He shook his head in disagreement and said, well, I see him riding behind Valentino and not even showing him a wheel, surely his Ducati has to be better than the Yamaha in some corners. I was actually annoyed with his answer, as it was incredible to me that he would take part in the ........ mindgames and publicly question Stoner's integrity.

I'd say he really did believe himself too since he said he would fix the Ducati in 80 seconds. Now we have a situation where the team is scrambling to fix that front end. When I see him again, I'm gonna remind him of our little conversation and ask him if he still thinks it was fair to question Stoner's willingness to push and try to pass Rossi on what was a .... front end.

OMG

He probably thought, oh I'll give this tosser a good story!!!

Your self importance is ....... staggering. When Burgess commented on the Ducati he was talking about the Satellite guys and their obvious problems that he could sort in 80 seconds.

News Flash- Jeremy Burgess is a professional, and the most successful Motogp Race Team Chief Engineer ever, The man has seen more Gp's and worked with worlds 'BEST' riders for more than 25 years, if he thinks that Stoner was following then I'd certainly believe JB, unless you now feel you know more.......

or does it just go against your every fibre to think that Casey could possibly do such a thing.........and you accuse other of mindless worship

First of all, Burgess is just a man. A very skilled and experienced one at his craft, but not infallible, as you tend to assign god-status to some of these guys, particularly your perception of Rossi (though not uncommon among people susceptible to cult following).

Are you sure that's what he meant? As usual Talps. Not only are your opinions ...., but so is your attempts at revision. Maybe I give you too much credit, maybe its not that you forget what is said, or don't understand it, but rather, you're incapable of basic comprehension.

The only word he used that might have confused you is Burgess referring to, as he put it, "lessor riders". Even here he was arrogant. What the hell does a "lessor rider" mean? Perhaps in his mind everybody else other than Valentino is "lessor". Who the .... knows, but he's certainly not made any secret of his opinion about Stoner. While everybody else who actually rides next to him keep telling us just how amazingly fast the man is, eh. But certainly he didn't use the word "satellite" bikes or riders. I'm not the only one who thought he was taking about Ducati in general. As this is what Kropo said when he spoke of Burgess' comments:

As for how competitive Rossi would be on the Ducati, Burgess was confident that he and Rossi would soon get the bike up to speed. It was clear that the bike was already competitive, Burgess told Abrams, and the issues he saw could be solved relatively easily. "If we had that issue with Valentino it'd be fixed in 80 seconds," Burgess said. motomatters

Ah, is this your "9 time world champ" version of retort for Burgess? Hahaha, man Talps, you are certainly predictable. News flash Talps, all men have flaws, sometimes that flaw is underestimating others, which is what he did when he said Stoner wasn't riding the bike hard. Oh but what a rude awakening he had at the Valencia test, eh? I could here him now, 'oops, oh ...., Casey wasn't kidding, this ....... bike does have a front end problem!' In that same interview where Burgess said he could fix the thing in 80 seconds, he also incredulously said this when asked:

What about all the front end trouble the riders have had all year?

“Are they having front-end trouble?"

And of course he would question if its a problem, as he doesn't have a very high opinion of Stoner, so it his fault. He couldn't admit the Ducati was suffering from front issues since he had already said it was Stoner that was the problem, not the bike. Oh, but what a rude awakening, eh Talps. What do you think that humble pie tastes like? (Oh I know, rhetorical, as you wouldn't know since that would require you to recognize and admit reality).

I have respect for these guys, but I don't think he was being facetious about Stoner, so I don't feel I'm unworthy of asking the man for clarification. I didn't go up to the guy and say, yo ......., what's with the Stoner dig? I said, excuse me Mr. Burgess, may I ask you a question about something you said in an interview regarding Stoner? He said, yes. And why not, this is a hobby to follow the sport, and I had just paid to have access to the paddock, and he was walking by me. What is "self-important" about that Talps?

Jumkie, not having been a member on here too long. I dont know anyones background. Did you get to meet JB on a professional level?

Just wondered if you worked for the media or something in some way.

Of course you're not "reading to much else", and why would you, it would require you to admit the man plays mind games. I guess its no coincidence that in his letter of departure to Yamaha, as part of the central theme he pointed out how he had practically single handedly, or as he put it, under his direction, had made the M1 great but now it would be ending with his departure. I think him saying this in what amounts to be a letter of resignation was to throw a little dart at Yamaha to link their success as tied to himself. And now, the dart via Burgess is to say, you see, I told you so, you should have got rid of Lorenzo instead.

The reason is that you are splitting hairs to paint something with a more negative twist than how it was probably meant. Your bias focusses on the negative, my bias said leave it alone as neither you or I were there. I know you'll label me some sort of way for that but so be it. I will manage to move on somehow...
