Edwards has agreed a new one-year contract after the Texan produced the best form of his MotoGP career during 2009, including a stunning second place in the British MotoGP at Donington Park.

The 35-year-old has featured in the top seven in ten out of 13 races so far and he's still firmly in contention for a top five world championship placing.

Joining the vastly experienced Edwards will be fellow Texan Spies. The 25-year-old joins the Tech 3 squad with outstanding credentials h aving enjoyed phenomenal success on board Yamaha's R1 machine in the World Superbike championship.

Winner of 12 out of 24 races so far with nine pole positions, Spies is already ranked in the top 15 World Superbike riders in history.
Herve Poncharal – Team Manager

“I am delighted that Colin will remain with the Monster Yamaha Tech 3 Team in 2010. He has proved once again in 2009 that he remains one of the world's best riders and he is a tremendous asset for Tech 3, Yamaha and Monster. Colin has been an integral part of our recent success and his dedication and impressive performances mean his new contract is thoroughly deserved. It also gives me great pleasure to welcome Ben to Tech 3. It's a very exciting prospect having a rider of Ben's calibre join our team. Everybody is aware that he is a rider with i ncredible talent and huge potential, which he has proved with some outstanding performances for Yamaha in World Superbikes this season. And I have no doubt that together with Tech 3, Yamaha and Monster that Ben will be a big success in 2010 in MotoGP. Colin and Ben together means Tech 3 will arguably field its strongest ever line-up and everybody in the team can look forward to 2010 with tremendous excitement and optimism. Finally I would also like to thank James Toseland. He has been one of the most determined and dedicated riders ever to work with Tech 3. I have nothing but admiration for James and it has been a privilege working with him. I wish him all the best for the future.”

I just saw it... added what... 5 min ago on motogp?
<
...You were fast! You won i was 2 late
<

not as quick as spies will be!
<

for me one of the most interesting questions for 2010 will be who is best non-factory rider (as i already posted as a poll).

its so hard to tell with spies coming in. do you guys really think he will be fast(er than colin or melandri) from day one?

cant wait to see!

Yes. That was very fast on the post. I am impressed!
if Spies can learn to set the bike up, he will do great. Better than melandri, hmmmm we will see

will these two get on together or will it be a cat fight.if ben beats colin straight away or colin beats ben and how good is the tech3 bike its not been great in races this yr what will 2010 bring

Add the fact of at least four rookies next year, maybe five with Aoyama. Should be some dogfights next year in the corners!

YEs! I called it way back when this was mere speculation. No one wanted to believe that there was going to be an all american team especially a texas team where these two will get along. It is going to be very intresting to see if Spies has the bike competative as quick as he had the superbike. I hope his bike is close to what Vales. My suspicion is that because Vale is close to the end of his GP career and obviously Spies and Jorge just started, they will be given good stuff to see who will be the next factory squad for when Vale jumps ship to DUCATII!!!!

Ok all you Lorenzoland turncoats, are you guys gonna be buying a Tech3 Monster hat & T now?

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE <div class='quotemain'>"Team Texas" has already been applied to the team as both Spies and Edwards hail from the Lone Star State.

"Or, Team Redneck," Edwards deadpanned this morning on his mobile phone. "Whatever you call it, I like it a lot better than 'Team ......'."link

Outch, parting shot to Toes or his crew chief or both?

I hate Texas, but they have produced some great racers.

Who's coming with next year to Laguna & Indy? Tequila shots all around!

i'm gonna try & do both.......... along with silverstone.

I've been trying to figure out whether this is a good move or a mistake by Spies, I currently think the move to GP is a mistake now that Kawasaki are moving into WSBK with the full force of their racing department.

Spies, like Hayden, is probably one of the greatest superbike talents to ever grace the planet. If he isn't successful immediately, I don't know if I'm going to be able to hang around and watch another American talent go to waste on an 800.

i think this is exactly the move he needed. he can always go back to wsb if things don't pan out.... but i think they will. after all he gos in with the target of 6-8 to finish his 1st season. i think that is defo not a problem. it's actually a bit low imo.

and don't expect to much from kawasaki next year.

That is one more reason I should stay alive in 2010

:D:D Can't fockin wait!!

dont think there will be much of a catfight...the two guys should get on very well...and remember: edwards is not in the position that he HAS to be quicker than a 10 year younger guy...he doesnt have to proof sth. to get a seat for 2011 cause his career is coming to an end! i think hell enjoy riding and simply do his best! if hes quicker fine...if he aint: there wont be war between them or anything!

Calm your fears. He'll be fine.

Gotta agree with ya. Spies is certainly gonna be an improvement on JT. He will come up against some quality, but I think he really need to step up when the chance presented itself.
