Or maybe, just maybe Mladin didn't want his final season legacy tainted with an altercation with a two bit "never was" like Pegram. He may have decided the punk wasn't worth the press time. Or that! Seriously though,when you open your pie hole and tell a man you are going to punch him in the nose, its pretty weak to walk away when he calls your bluff. He should have punched him in the nose and then hoped someone would break it up.
