Does James Toseland deserve to be Champ?

Finally you boys have a "lucky" Brit to cheer for.

JT barely won by 2 points, Haga should have been champ had he not had some early "unluckiness", had it not been for that, he would have been champ. I guess JT got “lucky” to win the title. Eh.

JT won by 2 points. Wow, he was even more 'lucky' than Hayden!

Did you see how he just "cruised" around as a mid packer to collect points the last few races? I'm sure you Brits are very disappointed in him "cruising" around like that. Very unbecoming of a champ, in the estimation of a few members here as I recall.

But the racing was great all year. Yeah, multiple winners, close racing all year, a few “unlucky” DNFs from the former champ who still managed to get many wins, who would have won more races had it not been for "unluckiness", the champ starts with an early season lead but struggled down the stretch, aboard that geat Honda machine, and some “unlucky” incidents for the runner up and third place finisher of the season, the championship came down to the last event, the last race!

Wow, where and when has a there been a season like this before? Uhm? Thinking…

(The above has been tongue and cheek, if you are fairly new to this site, you may not get the joke.)

Congratulations to James Toesland, he is nothing less than a deserving World Superbike Champion!!!! Your proud nation is behind you!

Good luck in MotoGP, you have earned it!!!

Toseland won 8 races this year and has many victories over his career, thats the difference..

No difference when it come to deserving to be world champions. Both did - they won em!

Kudos to JT...and you can be funny sometimes...

My only other thoughts are that I am gutted for Haga not wining it again, and JT is not the luckiest man in Motocycle racing that dubious honor belongs to Mr Ben Spies (1 point champ?)...

That's a laugh, his proud nation ain't even heard of him!! It got zero coverage on British T.V

Spot on Jumkie, do you see a recurring theme of lucky Hondas beating the Yamahas by cruising?

I think Honda should be banned for encouraging unsportsman like behaviour.

Anyway, congrats to JT, possibly the last credible WSB champ for a bit, next year it will be Bayliss on the 2 litre Ducati. And thats not fair either, the Japs should only be allowed to run 600 singles against the Ducatis.

I think it's outragous that a Honda won the supers and a Yam came second.

Thanks. I suppose I'm safe to respond here to you.

Yes, Ben Spies, the "luckies" man this season. haha. Funny thing is, and I just noticed this, Hayden, Toseland, and Spies, all won in the last race because they did what they had to do. Oh well, in my book that counts for something, eh. The three wise men or the three "luckiest" men in motorcycle racing?

Yeah but no but yeah but no but, Toseland has raced more races this year.

To be honest I'm thinking he may have made a bad decision by not sticking with Honda for next season, but on the other hand, if you were Toseland and you only ever dreamed about being in MotoGP you would take the break when it came up I suppose. I wish him all the luck in the world, I hope he made the right decision, I will be cheering him on.

But Antfan, he had twice as many races. So if you think about it, and make it a mathimatical expression, his margin of victory in points was smaller, and race wins wasn't that different if you think about it this way: Toesland 8/30 Hayden 2/15. Perhaps if Hayden would have had 30 opportunities, he would have doubled in the places where he won. I still think both had similar experiences and at the end of the day won the title, something I respect regardless of how they got there. Anyway, just a thought. I don't want to debate you, it was all meant to be funny as Migs noted.

Even if he couldn't ride....which he yummy well can...I'm of the humble opinion that anything that looks like this will be a more than welcome sight in the motogp paddock.

Not at all. I was agreeing with your point, which was that toseland was a worthy world champion just as hayden was (I don't really know of many unworthy ones) and trying to be humorous myself by being terse.

I usually enjoy your posts even when I disagree, as you are obviously an enthusiast and your posts are well and passionately argued.

Thanks, that's a great endorsement. I know I can get under peoples skin sometimes (Antfan & Migs) but I'm not the monster they think I am.

The monster is Roger, who strangely has been eerily absent from this thread, who frankly inspired me to write it.

Perhaps the following picture can best represent Roger's theme of last years posts about Hayden, in light of the similarities to Toseland, and how it has comeback to….(well I think you will get the picture):

Sometimes things you say come back and bite you on the balls! Outch!

It looked bad but he obviously gave up got bored but nearly cost him. His mind is on Motogp.

Hes a very good rider no doubt, second string yamaha is not really gonna cut it next year and he'll get more doubters.

Haha, ace pos RJ.
<

The thing is that some people really have that view that because he only won by two points he's ....., and Haga should have won, well they fail to look at the season as a whole.

8 race wins, 4 if the races were on a GP schedule.

My boy done good.
<

Oh BTW RJ, JT only ever gets his kit off when he wins British rounds, though I wouldn't be suprised if he did it when he wins his first ever GP sometime in the (hopefully) not-too-distant future.
