Less I miss my guess, this is about taxes he hasn't paid. I don't know anything about tax laws in his country, but I reckon with a good lawyer, he can have the amount owed, bargained down. I'd bet even money Dani has plenty of dough stashed away in some Cayman island bank. I can't believe he's actually broke. The amount owed is not really that much. Worse comes to worse he could always sell his yacht. :p

It's the same that happened to Rossi in 2007: Income Tax is claiming 8 million euros of (allegedlly) unpaid taxes from him. Now his lawyers will negotiate and in the end he will certainly pay much less. It's almost a routine process of tax callection from the rich and famous.

Why is a shame for rossi?? You do the crime, you do the time.

I don't get why they just don't pay their tax.

There isn't a businessman out there that doesn't cut corners or fudge on taxes. It's a given. Some are just more high profile and more likely to be singled out by the authorities.

People who make that kind of money most likely have someone who is supposed to manage that money, including setting up tax shelters. Whoever that person is, has done Dani a disservice. They get paid to make sure that all tax shelters are legal, and what taxes are paid, are paid on time.

Surely it's not that difficult to go "right you've earned 2 million euros this year, the tax rate in Spain for high earners is 47% so you owe 940,000 in income tax"

As someone who is classified as a high income earner if at a minimum of one order of magnitude less than Dani, and also someone who sees it as a civic duty to pay tax, they sometimes change the rules without actually telling you.

If as would seem probable he has accumulated the debt over several years he has likely been poorly advised as has been said; I am sure he doesn't do his own tax returns.

Not sure how it works in Spain, or GB, but over here, no, its not that simple. Its not just a flat % rate and thats what you pay. You have an endless number of write offs and loopholes you can take advantage of if you know the tax codes or can afford to hire people who do. The GE corporation makes billions per year and despite the false rumors that they didnt pay any taxes, they did pay a reported measly 7%. Of course they spent 10's of millions on 100's of lawyers to achieve that figure, but hey, at least that is boosting the economy, where giving it to the government you might as well flush it down the commode. They will give it away to some ....... deadbeat to buy a vote.

Doesn't Pedrosa live in Switzerland? So Maybe it's the country (Spain) who is being an ........
