SO does this mean its deffo Pies or Edwards that gets Rossi's Ride and Yam are just looking at a tech3 replacement.ITS

Got to be Edwards Ride then at Fiat ????

WORLD Superbike rider Cal Crutchlow, who lives in Ramsey, has revealed he has turned down the chance to ride for the Tech 3 Yamaha team in MotoGP.

He was asked by Yamaha to take the ride following MotoGP legend Valentino Rossi's crash at Mugello earlier this month, Cal revealed to the motorsport website Crash.net

Rossi broke his leg in the accident and his Fiat Yamaha squad need to find a replacement.

Current Tech 3 riders Colin Edwards and Ben Spies have been linked with the Fiat Yamaha ride which would leave an empty seat at Tech 3.

Speaking to Crash.net Cal, who is the reigning World Supersport Champion and now rides for the Sterilgarda Yamaha squad in the Superbike class, said being asked to take the Tech 3 MotoGP ride was "a massive honour".

"We decided internally between me, Lin [Jarvis – Yamaha motor racing managing director], Hervé Poncharal (Tech 3 boss) and Yamaha not to do it. Yamaha wanted me to do it, Hervé wanted me to do it and I wanted to do it and my first initial thought was that it would be great, but it would have been a big ask, a big challenge and a big step.

"It would have been difficult to do six weekends of racing back-to-back and keep jumping from one bike to another – and the differences in machinery are incredible. I've never ridden a GP bike, never ridden a Yamaha 800cc, never ridden carbon discs and never been to the three circuits they wanted me to do – and I would have had no testing beforehand because there was no time in-between the races."

Cal's team mate in World Superbikes is a fellow Manx resident. Two-times World Superbike champion James Toseland used to live in Ramsey himself but is now based in Port Soderick. He rode for the Tech 3 Yamaha squad in MotoGP in 2008 and 2009.

Damn. in my opinion if a motogp team ask you to jump, you reply with, how high?

Let's see...

He would have no testing, on a new bike, new tyres, and would be jumping from a superbike to a gp bike week after week.

I think he made a sensible call.

Given the exposure to ride on the highest level, he will now always wonder "How would have that felt?".

I wonder how Colin feels right now about how JT handled his GP career?

Thats what this would be a test. Something you don't get many of anymore in gp. So you have to take it when the opportunity presents itself. He wouldn't lose a single fan for taking it easy and running in the back. If anything he would gain popularity and become a hotter commodity just by being in the paddock. Now he needs whoever takes the seat to preform like .... or he will have to take a seat at the back of the bus. Just because your in the running for employee of the month doesn't mean you turn down a job interview as a general manager. jeez.

The right choice, focus on his own championship.

Lets be honest mate, he is not in any position to win championship this year. In my opinion at this level you have to take opportunity with both hands when it present itself

.

Dumbest move ever. Only halfpint 250 jockeys are getting handed rides in motogp at the moment. Right now his best case scenario is to run WSBK for 2 more years and hope success comes to him and then pray someone wants a sbk guy for motop which at the moment is highly unlikely. Languishing outside the top 5 in the old fart series is not more important than the massive exposure he would recieve riding Rossi's bike.

Yes, and with that kinda attitude, perhaps he "never" will.

I have to agree, its not like he is in the championship hunt in WSBK.. If you look at the current crop of WSBK riders, i dont see one that the GP paddock is clamoring to get their hands on. He might have missed the one and only chance to ever race in GP.

How come Crutchlow was asked and JT wasn't? To think he would have had the necessary experience of riding that GP bike.

Us mere mortals have to go to work 6 weeks in a row every 6 weeks. These blokes are supposed to be hard men. This new breed of motorbike racer is just to soft. Didn't they race on weekends and then go and work a trade during the week once upon a time?

yes we would have taken the ride...yes we probably would have killed ourselves trying to run at the back of the grid

Cal just been on German tv.Big smile saying him taking a motogp ride isn't OFF yet
