COOL DUC VID. OTHER HOT NEWS. SPIES TO TAKE DANI'S PLACE?

Spies has a contract with yamaha, for 2010 as well. The only thing more unlikely than yamaha allowing him to ride a repsol honda would be hrc letting him to do so, unless his management have negotiated an extraordinary contract with the mother of all get-out clauses. I suppose it is vaguely possible he may have had a guaranteed factory yamaha ride next year which now cannot be delivered.

Not that I don't think repsol honda shouldn't have signed him last year, he reputedly has good bike development skills apart from anything else.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE <div class='quotemain'>The upcoming round of World Superbike would expect Yamaha’s Ben Spies to be in Valenica preparing for Round 3 of the series. Well Spies was spotted in Barcelona where he was seen by the newspaper El Paiz in a restaurant at the same table of some important Repsol Management. The most important figure spotted at the table besides Spies was Jaume Giro Chief of the Marketing Department of Repsol.

Could this mean that Repsol is looking for new blood besides the Spaniard Pedrosa? From Pedrosa’s residence in Switzerland some discouraging news on his health. Following the operation from the crash during the Qatar Test an infection was found and as a result could keep Pedrosa away from the race track for a couple of months.

With this information now released by MotoCorse.com could be the reason Repsol is now shopping for a new golden boy to support the company image. Since Pedrosa is not healthy to compete for maybe two months are they looking for a replacement rider? We will have to wait a few days to confirm these rumors. Either way it would be huge news for World Superbike and MotoGP Championships.

Damn.

well, if Ben wants to dodge the rookie rule in 2010, he has to jump onto a factory team now. that is the only way he will be on factory equipment in 2010. if and its a big if, he gets a repsol ride, will it be a season long contract? or will it be a race by race ride as with cappers bike last year? i dont know if that will pass as a full enough season to qualify and exclude him from the rookie status in 2010 (assuming that he even goes to motogp in 2010).

I would have thought a replacement ride or two wouldn't get around the rookie rule. He'd probably have to be on the FIM entry list for the season, which he isn't

If they declared dani out for the season, signed spies as his replacement and he raced every round you would think it would get around the rookie clause for next year, not that this would seem at all likely to occur.

All matters contractual and otherwise aside he doesn't look like he would fit on a honda motogp bike anyway.

well it seems it depends on who will be what rookie means. if it means races run then he's not a rookie now because of the above so wether or not he rides this year would be irrelavent. if spies stays the hot property he is now believe me ezy will make sure he's on the grid in 2010. but i can't see him gettin out of his yamy contract that easy unless has be said there is 1 hell of a clause written in...

or it could be that Spies is lighting a fire underneath Brivio's ... and making sure yamaha get his ride sorted early for next year. nothing like talking to the enemy to get your current employer to toe the line...

AFTER THIS WEEKEND, SPIES HAS LITTLE CHANCE @ THE WSBK CHAMPIONSHIP - THIS YEAR!
HE'S 40 POINTS DOWN TO A SUPERLATIVE HAGA.
THERE ARE 11 RACES LEFT AND HE HAS <10% CHANCE TO BE LEADING THE CHAMPIONSHIP BY AUG 30 (AFTER BRNO).

Nonetheless, the three-time AMA Superbike champion is in no hurry to decide his future, insisting that he is enjoying World Superbikes to the point that he says he 'may not be leaving soon'

Little chance you say? Tell that to Colin Edwards about his 2002 season, when he was down 45 point after round 3 and ended up winning the championship. Last year in WSBK there wasn't a single rider without two DNF's, and we all know Haga's propensity to go down at some point. I'm a big Haga fan and will be happy if he wins it, but let's not jump to any conclusions just yet.

Dude, what are you smoking? Where on Earth did you get this "<10%" hooey?
Haga's lead is 40 points. With 550 still up for grabs, that's nothing.

I said, before Aug 30, after Brno to take the lead. That leaves 14 races (7 tracks) to make up 40 points. Think about it. Double wins at Assen, Miller, and Donnington with all seconds elsewhere only allow for 30 points if Haga performs as expected.
Ben won't be ready to leave WSBK after Brno. Haga is riding better that ever, gets good starts, and can swallow a 2nd place without getting silly.
Oh, and there are other people in the championship! I really want Ben to win. However, his 2 donuts in 6 races are not helping him. 2010 will be his year.
