Chaz wins BBC Wales Sports Personality of the Year!!!!!!!



I meant to post this the other week. Quite frankly I'm slightly confused as to how this happened owing to the fact that very few people across the border and come to that anywhere, have any knowledge whatsoever of the World Supersport Title. What is perhaps even more perplexing, I have yet to find a Welshman (and I know one or two) who actually knows or indeed gives a flying .... who Chaz Davies actually is, (apart from phleg or phlegm or whatever his name was - and he went away for a spell while his balls dropped). Come to that who the .... has heard of the BBC Cymru Wales Sport Personality Title...and does anyone care? Perhaps they do now that they have finally discovered TV in the valleys.



Voting lodged by telephone was open to all residents of the UK - or in this case it would seem the sizeable British contingent of the ParkinGO Yamaha team - in the absence of anyone else that could be bothered.



I have always held that Chaz is massively underrated and as so often is the case his passport, and the ignominy of those ..... rides in 125 and 250 unquestionably damaged his career from which he is only just recovering. When he went to the AMA I thought that would effectively wind up his career and was thrilled to see him re-emerge in an international series. So no intention to belittle or undermine this achievement. If he has helped to slightly raise the profile of the sport in Merthyr Tydfil then good lad. What really counts is the fact that we are reminded of the fact that he secured an FIM World Championship this year and that he still has huge potential in the sport.

AT least the name Davies would be recognized as a Welshman!!

Actually it was genuinely a complete shock - particularly when you look at the list of the other sports personalities. It was the complete opposite of what you are suggesting and the result raised a few eyebrows - not least in the Davies camp itself.



Fascinating what you're saying about his renown in Oz, but then I don't think the sport is so marginalised down under as it is here. I remember Toseland, Fogarty and Hodgson were nominated for BBC Sports Personality of the Year in years gone by. Certainly the competition for Welsh Sports Personality of the year is less formidable.
