Is this a lost in translation moment. A compound fracture by definition, a fracture in which the bone is sticking through the skin. Also called an open fracture.

It doesnt take an MRI to reveal a compound fracture. If it is a compound fracture, how in the hell did they miss it at Clinica Mobile
 
has found, besides the contusions, a fracture composed of the cuboide of the skillful heel and a microfracture to the base of the 4° metatarso.



 The cuboid bone is a small bone, just in front of the heel bone, about halfway down the outside of the foot. There is a muscle on the outside of the leg (known as peroneus longus) that has a tendon which passes down the outside of the ankle area and passes under this cuboid bone to travel to the other side of the foot. Its uses the bone as a pulley to change direction. When this muscle contracts the tendon is going to want to pull up on the cuboid and move it out of place. If the bone moves too much, this can strain the joints around it. We are designed so that this bone is very stable. In some people, for a number of biomechanical reasons, the bone is not very stable, so the if movement is excessive and if activity levels are high cuboide syndrome can result.

Mistranslation! Sorry! Thanks for pointing that out. The Italian word being used is "composta" which means combined. Which presumably means there were multiple fractures in the bone, but I'll check with Suzuki.
 
Either way, outch. Speedy recover fast old man. Perhaps now he has a bit of time to catch up with his old friend KRJR.

yeah it bad news at his age to recover from injurys like this. do you remember when i came over to see you in 08 i was recovering from a fracture in a metatarsal ? couldnt stand for to long a walking was very painful. woods took some pain away tho

But it's not very critical for riding. The blod tranfer around the metatarsal's are good so the fractures heal quite fast and you can race 3 weeks after multiple metatarsal fractures.
 
well it looks like Capirossi wont be passing Kallio for 16th overall in the standings....I still can't believe he is getting a Ducati seat next year,



I hope he heals up fast and well
 
Poor Loris. I think his time at Suzuki has really been the final nail in that teams coffin. He is exactly the type of rider who could have developed and riden that bike up the pecking order if there was enough money coming in to get it sorted.

I agree. Suzuki really pissed up an opitunity having capi there imo.

I think it basically tells the story of Suzuki's GP team (who i think are good, despite all the .... some people give Denning) and Suzuki Japan who are not interested. They got all the right people in place, and it just isn't going to work without competitive backing.

I agree.

Capirossi-maybe not the fastest Moto gp rider,but shure as hell a regular top 10(at least).



Team-Working their butts off with what they got.



Suzuki Racing department-Just about non existent.

(That's what Spies discovered when he turned them down,probarbly)



2 races where the bike just quits,several crashes he(,the most experienced gp rider)can't explain.I can understand if he looses faith in Suzuki.

I hope he's well enough over the winter to get the new bike set up.

I remember when Top 10 ment something, now it just means the back third of the grid, shame.



I agree with Tom regarding Denning, poor bloke has little support from the factory. He has a real Thankless job imo.

Right. "Compound fracture" in English has come to mean (somehow improperly) "exposed" fracture, a fracture in which the broken bones went through the skin. In Italian "composta" literally means "compound", and that makes sense (not a single fracture but a fracture combined with - or compounded by - others) so the translation of the word in itself would have been correct in almost any other context (as in "compound interest" for example); but the conventional meaning of "compound" in the English medical jargon has become different, for unknown reasons. English is wonderful, but surely not the most consistent language! We poor translators have to deal with these little traps every day...
