Can Maverick do a Jorge over Rossi next year?

Does anyone out there think Maverick will be able/allowed to beat his No1 in his first two seasons on the Yamaha? Maverick isn't a rookie like Lorenzo was and has come via the moto2 route instead of 250s, is it a bigger jump or doesn't it matter given Maverick's Suzuki experience.
Both riders this time have equal experience on the tyres, it's just a question can the lad jump on the Yamaha and usurp his team mate.
It's going to be fireworks if he hits the ground running!

If he 'does a Jorge' he'll win the championship in year 3 !

I meant beats his senior team mate. It was his second season on the same tyres though so there are similarities there.

He won't try to send himself to the moon like Jorge did 1st season, I'll put my caravan on it lol.

Yea, i saw an interview one time with Jorge and he admitted that for a short time, he was scared of the bike and contemplated giving it up. I think it was after his vicious Laguna crash, after all that had happened before then, he was convinced he was going to die.

I wonder if that is how he got so damn fast, mentally blocking fear.

Like most great riders, he was fast at a young age. Jumping on a MotoGP bike must've been massive after the 250!

It was the highside friendly 800 lest we forget, which is probably why he started off so well, as it had 250esque corner speed.

But ever so much of a step up from a featherweight Aprilia lest we forget. Also he went from Dunlops which were great for feeling and allowing riders to know the limits, to Michelins which gave slightly better grip but notorious for their lack of feeling at their limits. (Funnily enough they're still catching riders out even this season)
There was nothing easy about jumping onto that bike and having to try and beat Valentino and Casey.
It's like expecting Valentino to beat an in form younger Doohan in his first year, if Mick was still fit and in MotoGP, no way would Rossi have taken his first 500 title so soon!

All I hope is that Maverick reads the terms and conditions of his contract before signing!

He's ignored two contracts already and supposedly has expressed a desire to get the title fast and retire. Apparently he's a tough little cookie who doesn't care what it takes to get what he wants.

Vinales also sees the future of MotoGP being between himself and Repsol Honda's Marc Marquez in the battle for world championships. In 2013 Vinales claimed his maiden world title with the Moto3 championship while Marquez grabbed a historic first MotoGP world crown in his rookie year in the premier class.

“If things continue like this I think Marc [Marquez] and I are going to be the future and the ones that are going to be battling at the end of the races,” he said. “I would like to battle with him because normally it looks like it is difficult to beat him but he is always on the limit with the bike.

“If you have a good bike and can push him over the limit normally he crashes. This a point that if you play you can have a chance to make him lose points.”

BTW, the headline had me rolling:

'Vinales expects smooth switch from Suzuki to Yamaha'

I'd say he has already made the switch, towing Rossi around. He is already VR's ......

I think Vinales is going to be in for a rude awakening now that MM has started riding smarter...and the arrogance in presupposing that he can force MM to make errors is amateur hour. My respect for him is going down. He hasn't done .... yet at this level save for a lone podium. He has blown other podiums. Sure being on the M1 will make a huge difference, but he shouldn't be expecting to suddenly contend, especially if Rossi doesn't like being beat.
