<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Tom @ Oct 19 2009, 04:38 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>Being in the right seat is a huge part of being a successful F1 driver. Alonso burnt bridges at the top like Biaggi and Lewis was with a team who had been fighting for the previous title to the death. I don't think anybody would expect Mclaren to be that far behind, but anybody surprised to see RedBull and Brawn at the top didn't do their research

I'm not sure anyone could have anticipated how miserably KERS was going to flop and I don't think the effect of the double diffuser could have been revealed through research either. The combination of the double diffuser and the handling problems caused by KERS basically crippled the traditional front runners. I think it is somewhat dubious to suggest that proper foresight would revealed they abysmal failure of Ferrari, McLaren, and Renault. This was allegedly supposed to be the year that the private teams had no chance.
