Bridgestone To Introduce New Hard Rear Tire For Brno

A new hard rear tire will be available to riders at the Brno race. Which brand of bike, which team and which rider will benefit the most from this new tire option?

This is your chance to predict the future.

Your best guess, your opinion, your insider info, and even your conspiracy will be welcome so get to typing already.

Ducati haven't been able to use the current rear in races so far as it wasn't working at all for them. They might profit most from it (though I still think they are deeply screwed anyway), whereas Honda and Yamaha could make the current rear work on their bikes anyway.

The more interesting question is if it will HURT Honda or Yamaha and push the balance of power towards one side or another, as had happened with the softer front last year that hurt Honda badly.

I can agree that Ducati certainly needs a favor, a gift, a break or anything to help their racing program.

It's been a long time since anything went their way - deserved or not.

Problem is that the current rules (five engines, control tires) massively favor evolution of a working system rather than revolution of a crap concept, which is the task Ducati is facing for a number of seasons now. And while a new rear might favor them (but then, who says so, it probably won't work on the Duc either) a bit, it won't be enough by far.

Ducati has the horsepower but getting it to the ground is the problem.

So it is down to the tires and /or frame to deliver the power.

Seems like Audi would have the computers and design team

to make a frame happen. Just a matter of using those resources.

Audi has about zero experience in motorcycle construction, and if they would be able to simply poop out a frame out of their computers (or anything else that works for that matter) they would have done so by now.

Their busy making overpriced cars that break frequently and cost too much to fix. Buying Ducati just expanded their ability to make more overpriced things that break frequently and cost too much to fix.

IIRC no-one is using the harder rear in races this year 'cos no-one can get enough heat into it to work (not saying no-one ever has, just that it's not common for any of the bikes) so I presume it will provide better longevity to any of them if they can get heat into it.

That would explain why a new tire is being introduced but what bike, team and rider is going to benefit from using it

Your guess will be just as good as any of ours till we get to see it been put to use.

Hopefully it will help the Duc and make the end season even more interesting. ;)

Clearly, this is a conspiracy to prevent Casey Stoner and Honda from winning the world championship. Oh, wait, that was last year.

Krop you might be closer to the truth than anyone would believe. Marc used a hard tire at Austin, Rossi favors a "good" hard tire but Stoner was the man who used them the hardest. Could it be that the powers in charge are holding a trinket up for Stoner to see? Just another lame conspiracy but does it have legs?

Myself and for the competition it would bring, I am hoping that the Duc really takes to the new hard compound.

I really enjoy a tight race up front and three brands are better than two.

No, it is obviously this year. Or do you think it is a coincidence that this news is made public within a week of the announcement that Stoner will test the Honda? Ezy just did the math, with 225 points still on the table, Stoner could still realistically win the championship if he'd come back now. This is just a pre-emptive strike to deter HRC from fielding a third factory bike with Stoner on it from Indy onwards.

Since Ducati is a rear biased bike, hopefully it can make the new tire works.

Thank you !! Won't help the front end feel but might give faster lap times.

edit - should have said faster times and the tires don't go off after 5 laps

         like the soft compounds do

I think more rear grip may make their understeer feel a lot worse

Perhaps a harder rear will slip a little to the outside and self correct the understeer. I don't know for sure - just hoping.

Might bring back the Stoner drift.

Dammit, now why didn't I think of that? Now it all makes sense...
