Brembo, which provides braking systems for all MotoGP teams except Honda Gresini, has provided a top ten 'late brakers' list complied from data gathered during qualifying for last weekend’s San Marino Grand Prix.
The braking area chosen was into the tight left-hand ‘Quercia Turn’ at the end of the back straight, where riders reduce speed from an average of 275 km/h to 85 km/h in just over six seconds.
Brembo top ten 'late brakers' – Misano:
1. Valentino Rossi (Fiat Yamaha Team)
2. Andrea Dovizioso (Repsol Honda)
3. Jorge Lorenzo (Fiat Yamaha Team)
4. Loris Capirossi (Rizla Suzuki)
5. Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda)
6. Marco Melandri (Hayate Racing Team)
7. Nicky Hayden (Ducati Marlboro Team)
8. Randy De Puniet (LCR Honda)
9. Colin Edwards (Monster Yamaha Tech 3)
10. Mika Kallio (Ducati Marlboro Team)

So much for the MYTH of Dani not being able to brake late.

Depends on if the right style to ride a Ducati requires that late braking... Well, Hayden and Kallio are both in top 10 so possibly.

Notice DeAgelis did NOT make the list. (Why would he, since he just uses other riders to brake).

Surely that makes him #1 then?
You can't get later than not using them at all.

This is kinda useless info. Everyone knew that Italians brake late... what I really would like to know is how much later Rossi brakes than others.

This is just one corner!!! Some riders may be stronger in braking at different corners than others...

Yeah, I worked for an Italian art director and he didn't break at all... he just kept stickin' his snout into a baggie of powder and we kept workin'... Ohhh you don't mean that kind of break...

later braking means potentially faster.

True, but if you can brake later and still maintain your corner turn in point and corner turn in speed, then it's faster. But, as you imply, it's a big if!
