Would that be the "uppers" or the "downers"?

Apomorphine.

Mick, Drill, cliche, a simple open design would is the solution. I posted a pic of one laster year after that Daytona crash vid i posted. The guard is not like a MX guard, the one designed for roadracing is a small piece extending from bar end slightly bent over lever. Not a complete loop over the handle bar.

good design solution, i only knew of the ones used on most supermotos and dirt bikes

The small guards just off the bar ends seem a good solution. Even with larger guards, wrists wouldn't be at significantly more risk. I've raced supermoto for years, and havent seen anyone get a wrist caught in a high side or anything similar with the bark buster types. They are incidentally outlawed in most motocross because coming up short (or long) on a jump can cause your hands to come off the bars and go through, but yeah, different kettle of fish altogether.

It is a good thing that they finally madated these guards. It is cool trying to eliminate the freak accidents that happen. If it saves a rider from harm in any way well hey I am for it.
