So some of you love to throw around the term "bopper" at any opportunity to describe some others on the forum and/or describing fans that are perceived as less-than-legitimate in someway. Being a pedantic sort of ...... I was just wondering how we, the PowerSlide community, define "bopper"?

Historical Definition:
bop n.
A post-World War II style of jazz characterized by rhythmic and harmonic complexity, improvised solo performances, and a brilliant style of execution.
intr.v. bopped, bop·ping, bops
1. To dance or move to the beat of this music.
2. Slang To go: bopped off to the movies.
[Short for bebop.]
bopper n.
One who bops.

Current Definition:
bopper n.
Teenagers; especially young teens who 'follow the pack'. This can mean; liking the same bands, wearing the same brand of clothes and adopting the same slang. This can be spotted as boppers behaviour and not an indication of indivdual taste by the complete change of affectations and habits after about eight months have passed.
Or
Term for a female who seem to always be with or attracted to a guy with a nice car, high status (athlete), or because other chicks want him. Not really a gold digger, because they don't neccessarily try to get his money, but they just want to be seen hanging with them and ....... him too.

Soooo... what's the PowerSlide definition kids?

I remember a similar thread about 2 or 3 years ago. The term "bopper" is most associated with the Rossi fan that worships mindlessly--Rossi-bopper. Its basically the mentality of a little girl who is obsessed with a teenage boy band, in this case, Rossi. The terms became solidified when after 2006, the Rossi-boppers where in full swing trying every angle do discredit Nicky Hayden's defeat of Rossi in 06. It continued momentum, as the Rossi-bopper found ways to discredit Casey Stoner's defeat of Rossi in 07. It has continued ever since. Oddly enough, all the angles and points used to rubbish these two former champs have come full circle and ironically apply to Rossi's 09 championship.

Example of Rossi-bopper: Talpa

Ain't that the truth!!

Sorry if this thread is a rehash (ha I just like to use "hash" in a sentence) of an older one but I wasn't privy to that thread.

So to you, Jum, "bopper" is exclusively used in reference to Rossi fans?

First definition could be applied to Roger.

Second definition could be applied to Marijke and Jumkie.

Well the mentality of a Rossi-bopper is not exclusive in terms of a mindset. Think of it as the equivalent of the term "fanboy". The word "bopper" has become a more general term now. But you asked the historical inception. The term "bopper" was originally coined to describe the rabid "Rossi fan". And as we all know, it’s more like a cult following rather than mere fanaticism for some on the extreme. Rightly so, since he has been frankly the most successful. Notwithstanding, like all high profile figures, you will get the Jim Jones effect in many of his followers.

OK I get it!

The element that you're missing though Micky, is that fanboys of other riders don't go trying to rubbish other riders left and right with a bunch of reasons to discredit. (Don't confuse this with rebuttles and retaliation to their lame assessments as they do; and chalk it up to "hating".)

But yes, there are some few boppers of Hayden, Stoner, etc.

No need to imagine, just look how some already tagged Lorenzo. (Reference: see J4rno & Talpa's take on Lorenzo: only good because he's on Rossi's development, etc.)

Yours is hardly an impartial opinion though is it ? (rhetorical question)

What do they call a fan who thinks they have the moral high ground by supporting a looser ? (not a rhetorical question)

Ah yes the Pot calling the kettle 'Black' or in this case yellow or red etc......well done Rog kicked his matchstick soapbox right out from under him......

BTW if we are going to bring up 'Boppers' and accuse some of it, then it cuts both ways, does it not Jumkie? Not in your mind it seems, but we all have our opinions so heres mine;

eg of CS Bopper; Pinky, Barry, Jumkie, Bunyip, TP70, Kers

eg of a Hayden Bopper; Jumkie

eg of a Nakano Bopper; well really, do I need to!
<

As Jumkie said............boppers need to put other riders down to support their man.

The rest of us support particular riders but recognise the talents of others.
I,ve already stated that I think Rossi is the greatest rider ever and Talpa wants to call me a bopper??

Pot calling kettle black methinks!

There are few absolute truths in this world but Jumkie your have spoken an absolute truth on this occassion. When I read the title of the thread I thought immediaty that all that needs to be said is:

TALPA

To try and clear out the 'Boppers' thing, Rossi's (including myself) vs. others (Lorenzo's, Stoner's, Hayden's, etc.) that claim not to be, but the true colors show sooner or later. I think can be seen by trying to elevate their Riders achievements too. What I am trying to say is that a lot of 'Boppers' diminish other Riders in other to level up the results, but it goes as elevating their preferred rider results too, and most don't see this. I think this is mainly what causes clashes, which is part of the Forum and game too.

This way you can see so many (non Rossi) 'Boppers' around in here and in other Forums too.

Now that I got that out of the way… Here comes mi 'Boppering'… The thing is that for over a decade, it has been Rossi against this great Rider or that other Great Rider, but always Rossi! How's that for a 'Bopper'?

Oh, but let us not forget the REVERSE BOPPERS
<

Most common specimen is the reverse Rossi bopper : person who at the mere mention or sight of Rossi becomes nervous, begins throwing things around, scolds the wife and beats the kids
<

Reverse boppers are also easy to spot because they will always dismiss Rossi ascribing his success to luck, "unfair advantages" (best bike, best tyres, best mechanics, best sunglasses, best stickers, best digestion) or lack of adversaries, or bad luck of adversaries, and -- if everything else fails -- then politics, mafia, aliens, unexplained magnetic fields from the sun or moon
<

They can also be spotted for their habit of instantly becoming straight boppers of any rider who promises to beat the hated Valentino: the recent example is Lorenzo, suddenly worshipped beyond his merits when the (much more credible!) Stoner seemed gone for good.

Chief example of Reverse-Rossi-Bopper: Jumkie
