seems like theyre doing an althea kind of thing, letting the satellite team run their operations and concentrating on just making the engines/electronics.

melandri will still be there, wondering what they will do with haslam, especially with the checa rumors and possibly 1 or 2 guys from motogp coming to wsbk next year.

the interesting thing for me is that this suggests bmw are getting serious about motogp...except for dtm cars (not a hightech thing, almost no r&d ) and prepping superbike engines they don't do much motorsport

Serious about motogp the rules are up in the air

maybe a crp team

or replace duc with a factory when they have left the series

motogp might be a good while off yet

or

if there not bothered about wsbk

motogp might be a million miles away

I bet Melandri is pissed, every 'works' team he signs for quits a year later!!!

Kawasaki 2009

Yamaha 2011

BMW 2012 hahaha

i feel the exact same way, every time i buy a shirt of a manufacturer they pull out.

add bmw f1 in 2009 to that list and you've got me.

hope that does not mean anything for ducati next year

Does rather seem there'll be more talent than bikes.

Seems an odd time to withdraw. BMW has improved to the point that they have a legitimate shot at the WSBK title. I'd think they would want to bag at least one trophy before throttling back their efforts.

well its not like theyre out completely.i also wonder what else they could do development wise.

wouldn't count melandri out for this years title. its almost 50 points yes, but its possible.

BMW are throwing in the towel. Since when are the Germans going all Frenchy?

not sure i agree that thats throwing in the towel though! seems like theyre saving some money for other projects.

if bmw had been smart they would have done this from the beginning. hire a good team to run their program and do the chassis mods ,buy the electronics, and concentrate on engines.

so far they spend way too much money

One wonders why BMW even enters these motorsport ventures only to exit after a short time.

This season in WSBK appeared to be their turning point. They seemed to fix their electronics problems that dogged them since their entry. Now they have some modicum of success to build upon and they say they don't want to continue in factory form. Hopefully the transfer of support to a privateer team won't halt their momentum and they can help win a championship next year.

Agree. If they can't or won't sustain a factory level of support in Wsbk, where they are getting a bit of success, why would anybody think they would enter GP?

because cutting costs in wsbk makes room for other investments.

and now that they have had their race wins ,motogp is a possibility.

is that a bad thing?

the more manufacturers the better.

IMO factory teams shouldn't be in wsbk from the start but then again i'm one of the guys that argue wsbk should be much closer to superstock

A Bit off topic a change in rules regs cost savings etc can work.imo

(that's the hot topic these days and will be for a while)

BSB Went for changes this year again across the board you still got good racing and its given more winners / podiums for riders etc

so cost savings can work if done right while keeping it entertaining on track

happy fans / sponsors / TV providers

?

BSB is the correct place to look, imo. BSB adopted a fixed rev limit for the 2012 season (along with other regulations). If a series has a fixed rev limit, factory development is less important, especially if they restrict or homologate electronics.

The end of factory teams in WSBK is not a bad thing. Production equipment, including production racing equipment, should be accessible and the manufacturers should be earning money from their racing programs. Prototype is a different story.

Its all to do with a break up between sponsors and BMW themselves.

Forget the idea of a BMW motoGP team too if my info is correct

got to ask though, which sponsors?

the factory team didn't really have big sponsors

would be great if bmw at least built a proper chassis for their engine so they could offer that as a crt bike like aprilia do.

if they really just minimize their factory effort without doing anything else that will be disappointing and look stupid, from what i've heard they have spent a lot of money since 2009
