Guys any of you got any idea of the Spies lap times?

During the vid he seemed to be pushing..
Schwantz seems to be cruising a little bit..

.....

Anyone..

This quote makes me want to puke

He said it seemed like an electric motor. The bottom end power is not as torquey as what he’s used to, but overall pretty fast.

Something is defenitely wrong when a motogp bike is not as powerfull as a superbike.

Good to see he had a positive test though

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE<div class='quotemain'>While riding with Schwantz, who was on Hopkins' spare, the pair got down into the 1:36 mins. lap range. But by the end of the day, Spies had lapped the 2.5-circuit he’d never seen, on a bike and tires he’d never before ridden, in 1:34.8 mins. To put it into perspective, the time is about a second off the race pace of Hopkins and less than that off the pace of Rizla Suzuki’s Chris Vermeulen. And all of that in 33 laps.

Hell yes!!!

GO SPIES!!!!

Can't wait until his first wildcard and/or 2009.

Good article that gives the details of his day. Sounds promising. http://www.cyclenews.com/ShowStory.asp?HeadlineID=11578

Thanks!!!
That's exactly what I was looking for. Sounds like Spies may be the real deal. Let's hope that he get's a seat in 2009.

Spies vs Toseland.... Anyone?

My Vote: Spies....

Tose will have had a year to learn all the tracks and the 800s before Spies comes in, but I think Spies will still give him a run for his money!

I'm with you on this Knockdown...doesn't seem right his production based bike seems faster. I bet Spies wouldn't have made that comment if it were the 990 based machines.

Glad to see he got on well with his initial ride though, does show some promise. I still think he has a long up hill road to success in Motogp though.....got my fingers crossed for him though, he seems like a good chap.

Does that surprise you or what?

Lets not forget some of the BEST riders and champions came from our American .... "national series"...

Kenny, Eddie, Freddie, Wayne, Kevin......

and soon Ben will be added to the list....after he hands Toseland his ... and ..... his bird

Spies vs. Toseland. Intresting contest. I'd go Spies only because he's wrestled two titles from Mladin, the only other guy to do that was Nicky. Toseland will be quick out of the box too, maybe only a second away on race pace, not bad. But the real deal for both of them is finding the other two seconds everbody else does over the off season. Toseland might be sharper on his development chops.

Yeah, Mighty Matt, on the best bike in the field by far, and Matt was .... at international level.

Don't compare Spies to the greats from 20 years ago, it'll come back to bite you in the ....

Thats 2 riders that have said the same thing.RLH said the Superbike was more powerful and the electronics and weight difference is what makes them faster. That and very trick suspension and carbon brakes.Thats why i never bothered getting caught up in this thread where someone was saying that Capirossi's sister [or some .... like that] said his bike was over 300 hp.I will take 2 pretty damn good riders word over somebodies sister any day.

Did RLH ever ride a 990?

Should't be expected though? They are 190cc less.

Yeah he rode the 990 last year at valencia so he has felt both bikes.

Spies is yet another case explaining motogp technology has gone too far... no one even if they are the greatest rider on earth should get that close to the race times after only being on a bike a couple times and having no data of the circuit.

Michael Schumacher doing a 1.37 also is too good for someone who is not a pro rider.

I feel anyone with good bike experience on the street could do a 1.40 or better its too dam easy to setup the bikes and when their out there the riders take different lines but still come out with similar lap times...

heres what Dovi had to say;

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE<div class='quotemain'>"I found the RC212V easier to ride than my 250, the electronics control things very well," declared the Italian. "The power is good but there's not too much like the older 990cc bike, which I tried back in 2004. People ask about the difference between the 250 and the 800. The biggest thing is the completely different way the power comes in: with the 250 the power is high in the rev-range, with the 800 there is power everywhere.

"The electronics make a big difference. On every corner I can fully open the throttle and the traction control handles it – even on a bike with more than 100bhp more than my 250! If I did that on a 250 I would go flying in the air and it would hurt!" he smiled.

I can see how the racers can say that the superbikes may have a little bit more low-end torque. The bigger superbike engines probably do have more grunt in the lower revs, but I am quite sure these production-based engines (that are barely tuned, using stock crankshafts) that rev to, what, 13-14000rpm do not a maximum horsepower that could measure up to the prototype (highly tuned, needing a rebuild after 1300-1500km) bikes that are reaching 16-18000rpm...

Spies, I'm one of your biggest fans, but it is obvious you know nothing about electric motors

What he means is its one constant powerband through the rpm, that is the feeling of an electric motor, no change in power.

Oh. I thought he was suggesting electric motors have no bottom end torque
