motogp.com · Aspar on ?difficult season? and plans for future

There are seriously mixed messages coming from Martinez on the Aspar team future...and of that his riders

1) He's thinking of refreshing the team and is thinking of new riders for team

2) Categorical assurance that Nicky has a 2 year contract.....but they are looking into all possibilities

3) Aoyama appears to have a 2 year deal as well, but even his seat is not safe

It seems that Jorge M wants more for his money out the bike and riders....no matter who or what part of Honda i backing the riders.....

Perhaps Jorge has some contractual performance thresholds his riders must meet to be assured of their second year with the team....

We shall see what happens over the next few weeks...

Surly 4mil has gotta include personal sponsors & endorsements. Sounds really high.

These Forbes lists and ones like them are so far off base. No way in hell Nicky is getting paid 4 million salary to ride the Honda production machine. I dont think he ever made that much riding factory Honda or Ducati.

I think Dorna is subsidizing Nicky's salary. He is the last American champion and Dorna is keen to keep some sort of American presence in the paddock at least for promotions during the American rounds.

That or Honda North America.

As much as I like the guy now, I think he sees MotoGP as more of a way to subsidise his lifestyle. If you look on Twitter he enjoys himself plenty between races.

Why wouldnt he....? It is not as though he ever going to get on the podium again....he's there to make up the numbers and keep American fans happy for while longer....

Could he go to WSBK? sure...but that is too much like work.....so why bother...just keep picking up the check and loving life......
