Nope, i heard the thing is more reliable than the Motoards. Testing has revealed 3 laps before it falls apart.

Unofficial confirmation of Aprilia's WSB contract with Roman Emperor

ACCORDING TO reports in some Italian press this morning, Max Biaggi has just signed on the dotted line for a one year deal with Aprilia in WSB.

The Italian will contest the company's all-new RSV4 superbike in the big bike class. He will ride in a one man Biaggi-Aprilia squad in all-Italian colours (ever the patriot, Max).

The move marks the final step in a high-profile official return to the class for the Italian company. Their exit from WSB in 2001 was put down to financial problems at the time.

The news will come as a disappointment to racing legend Jorge Martinez, who has been widely tipped as pursuing Biaggi for the vacant third Kawasaki MotoGP ride next year.

As yet, there is no official notification of the deal from either Biaggi or the factory. We'll bring you any news on that the moment we have it.

I tend to agree, IF Max does sign with Aprilia he has to be doing so with the knowledge that they are coming back to racing with a new bike. That means the possibility of random break downs and issues, along with lots of development. If he really was serious about of championship, he should have stayed with Suzuki. At any rate, the WSBK grid is getting bigger and bigger, I hope for a competitive season next year.

Well lets see. We have BMW conming in with Ruben Xaus and possibly one more rider. Biaggi with Aprilia and possibly one more rider on the team. Then KTM is supposed to either come in for the 09 or wait one more year and come in for the 10 season. Funny thing is that neither BMW or Aprilia have a road going machine on the market at present but are both set to race for the 09 season. KTM has a bike out in the KTM 1190 street version but hasn't made any recent announcements I am aware of about racing in WSBK in the 09 season. I have read that they will race in a superstock series in BSB or something but not yet in WSBK. HmMM funny that it is that way. Also the latest news at DUcati is that engine development with the current configuration has reached the ceiling and can't go any further. They have employed some of the people from ferrari to help dev and brand new motor for ducati. Word is that it still will be a vtwin but noone really knows the details as of yet since it is being developed at the moment.

This just in from World Superbike:

Biaggi to return to Aprilia for Superbike World Championship
Update: September 19, 2008, 18.20 PM ET

Max Biaggi, who won three of his four world 250 GP titles with Aprilia, is set to return to the Noale-based company to ride the Aprilia RSV4 in the Superbike World Championship in 2009 and 2010.

Rome-born Biaggi had a successful period with Aprilia between 1991 and 1996, winning three world titles in the 250 GP class, which included 23 GP wins and 37 podiums.

"Biaggi was our number one choice, I'm delighted to have him back with us" declared Leo Francesco Mercanti, Director of Product Development and Sporting Activities of the Piaggio Group. "Max is a rider who has written a number of important chapters in Aprilia's racing history: he was involved in the company's first major triumphs, and the seasons of Aprilia domination, all of which enabled this young company to join the 'greats' of motorcycle racing. Today, with Biaggi and the Aprilia RSV4 we begin a new challenge. We are convinced that with him, we will be able to put to the best possible use all of our passion, our expertise and desire to win".

They didn't exit from WSBK in 2001, they exited in 2002 as Haga rode the Aprilia in 2002.

Rockgod got me thinking, how long a head of that season dose a mfg have to make the bike to race it in SBK? The next year Euro bikes always came out months ahead of the Japs, and we have yet to see any road going bike from either BMW and Aprilia. Maybe there is no actual rule as long as there is a bike made for that model year?

As for what Rockgod stated about Ducati, i think they already have made the model in production just in case the twin can't go any farther.

If you look at what Aprilia did in world super bike years ago, I think Max may have a better bike than Ruben.

I'm soo looking forward to 09 in wsbk. Hope all the new guys (mfg's) jump into GP's too!!!!

I'm positive that their are deadlines for production and minimum numbers, i just don't know any details.

There are very specific homologation rules for the series. Each company can produce a superbike but have to make so many for the public to purchase. Anyone remember the Foggy/petronas. They had made the number of bike required to sell for the series but warehoused the lot until a specific time. I thought at that time you had to have production models on the showroom floor but that move put my thought to rest. As far as Ducati is concerned with the new motor. There is nothing other than a statement released regarding the new motor in development at this stage and nothing as far as specs other than it is supposed to be a twin. Now if Aprilia does unreal laptimes and wins all the races I could see Ducati at some point putting in the old 990 desmosedici in since it no longer is really a current gp machine and is presently sold to the public. I also think that because of the demand they had for the bike they upped the number they were originally going to make which could put them very close or even at the number required to race in the series. The only reason I was told that this more than likely will never happen is because they don't want the current customer base who bought the bike at 75k to feel jilted when they homolgate it for superbike. I wish they rethink this especially with the priller cause that bike is really close to being the top hp machine in the series for next year. Biaggi just signed with them so he should feel very good on the bike.

I'll bet Aprillia was holding their breath when Biaggi had that crash at the start on race II today.

A few minor changes to the Desmosedici and it could race. I'm not sure they would hire people from ferrari unless they were going to build a 6 or an 8
<

Watch it happen.

Honda's new VFR is supposed to have the 990cc V5 with all kinds of goodies like semi-automatic gearbox etc. Everyone knew this was going to happen. MotoGP has been getting more and more restrictive, and whether Tom knows it or not 99.9% of all currently developed motorcycle parts are banned.
<
That really helps development when you have to spend 2 million on a relatively conventional clutch to make sure it doesn't contain production parts.

Isn't the purpose of prototyping to help small companies that don't have the benefits of mass production?

WHERE ARE THEY DAMMIT?! Oh yeah, they are signing up to race WSBK.
<

Ezy go bye bye unless he can make some fundamental changes to differentiate the sport from a new high tech WSBK. I know a marketer would never have approved 800cc so I kinda fell bad for him...................no I don't
