AMA Heartland Park race thread

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Mr. Shupe @ Aug 3 2009, 12:14 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>Seems people are being relatively quiet over the ambulance so far...

Even if Eslick doesn't control the race, it is hard to deny that the rules have at least made things easier for him than the 600 riders. He can pass on the straits and slow the 600s in the turns during the race. When he gets passed, he powers back by out of the turn, since the overtaking 600 rider took a different, slower line to get by.

I thought the Aprilia mixed well with the 600s, at least this past weekend. Eslick shot past Davies on the front strait too. Why can't the Buell run like the RSV1000? Too heavy?

Not much participation in this thread. If the diehards who populate message boards aren't interested...

The ambulance event has been quiet b/c DiSalvo saw it with plenty of time to react and the riders ignored red flags for nearly 1/2 the course. Maybe they couldn't see them or maybe they don't care to look, who knows?

The Buell had a huge advantage on the straight this weekend because the final turn is so slow. The Buell's torque gives it a big advantage out of the last turn and up the hill. On a longer straight with a faster last turn, the Aprilia is supposedly faster than the Buell.

I also have to say great ride to Taylor Knapp in SBK race 2.

Folks are so tire of bitching about the Alice In Wonderland interpretation and implementation
of the AMA rule book. The AMA is like a Hydra; cut off one stupid head and two more, dumber
than the first, pop up and start waving their tongues. Their rampant incompetence just drags
on year after year.

That - combined with just how boring the racing has been the last few year - along
with nightmare of Nascar-ization of the sport - is creating a suffocating sense of
ennui that makes folks like me cease to give a ..... I'm just waiting for this rabid dog
of an organization to die - so someone else can start afresh. As an ex AMA member
who formerly raced in AMA-CCS series - I consider myself more than a fan. But there's
just so much sisyphean head-butting and fighting the tides of mediocrity and phillistinism
a person can take before he throws his hands up and and says .... it.

A bike with a CLEAR performance advantge made possible by the sanctioning bodies manipulation of the rules. I have been around racing for a long time and i know sandbagging when i see it and im seeing it in maybe it most purest form. I find it really hard to believe that Eslick gets so excited after winning a race when he knows he is riding a ringer. He should be embarrassed, as should Buell. And that track, jeez, whats next Hallet,Talladega,an old airport with cones, shopping mall parking lots. I think im going to go outside and see if i cant find some 12 year olds to beat the .... out of on the basketball court so i can feel like i am king. Im 6'5" and 250 lbs but im old so it should be fair since they are young and nimble right!
You are so correct man!!!! .... DMG, Abigger .... you to Buell for being ok with the clear advantage. How can any of them be proud of winning like this? It is funny how this bike which really none of us can buy for the street is ok to race. I could give a .... about buells cause they have always been stupid looking and underperformers right from the beginning. DMG is the biggest joke in racing today. This can easily be seen by the attendence at the races.

Wow, what a post. The first paragraph is pure caustic art.

Keshav pretty much summed it up. I don't attend the events anymore, I don't watch the races on TV anymore, what's the point in debating the merit of the series? It doesn't have any appeal to me anymore. Sure, I read the results because I want to know if BB had a good result and obviously I read up on the latest news of the series because let's be honest, the DMG's handling of this series has been most most unintentionally hilarious bit since, well... That's too bad. You missed some good racing last weekend.

For sure. And Mid-Ohio was even better. Race 1 reminded me of Mugello 2006--nine guys in a train stalking one another until the time was right for some fierce fairing bashing. Is it slightly contrived? Certainly. Is the fierceness of the competition contrived? No way.

Just watched the DSB Race 2 press conference. Herrin sounds like he's got the mystery Stoner illness. He feels poorly, but when he gets on the bike it feels like someone is twisting his insides.

Hey Sack - didn't say I don't watch the races. I'm a racing junky for too many years.
I just don't waste a lot of energy bitching about the AMA.

Well if you read who I was quoting and responding to it was Austin who said

Glad to hear that you are still watching.

Finally got around to watching the DSB races from Topeka. The Buell blasting past the number 1 and number 2 riders on the straight in one move, is just plain ridiculous. Eslick is probably going to win that championship and I feel bad for him, as everyone will know it was done on a "cheater" bike. Whatever parity they were trying to create in that class, it does not exist. Sure I agree with Scott Russel's commentary that Danny is the only one that can put the Buell at the front, compared to other Buell riders, but in my opinion the clear advantages of the bike has pretty much discredited all he has done.

I'm happy to see Buell create an American sport bike, but they are attempting to gain credit in an unfair situation. I find it interesting that the riders have been hush hush about having to compete against the Buell, I wonder if DMG or their teams have some sort of gag order on them in regards to commenting on getting their ..... handed by a bike with a clear advantage?

On a positive note, Herrin had an incredible performance after taking a ride thru the motocross section (ie - the big hole at the end of the straight) to come back and take a podium, very impressive ride. Also good to see Aquino running up in the front, he has shown great improvement over the year.

Hacking had something to say about the Buell ringer early in the season and got in trouble. Something along the lines of, i feel like i won the race,i was the first 600 across the finish line.
