Seriously WTF was the competition like back then? I bet half the people on here could have won world tittles in his day. Just like Wilt Chamberlain in basketball, the only big black dude!!!!! Thats my analogy..........

haha .... well not that bad but I do suspect you are kinda right ..... just consider ... for some competitors back then the "getting there" was actually harder than the race.

i think comparing athletes from different eras are the epitome of mental masturbation. Especially in racing b/c the difference in technology has changed drastically. So if there is a big margin in technology and not much of a margin in ability. So a rider or driver from the 60's,80's, cannot be really be compared to one from now. How can we compare a rider's ability or talent on a mahine he/she has never ridden or driven? It's almost an unsolvable question. Am i crazy?

TE lives!

Can you imagine a young Barry Sheene competing in today's MotoGP!

Man, I'd pay a lot of many to see him turn up with a ... ( cigarette for those unsure of the context here ) hangin' out of his mouth, a beer in his left hand & coppin' a feel of the grid girl with his right!

More than likely was out on a piss up to the wee hours and probably turns up at the race wearing a Ducati Shirt whilst sitting astride a Honda to boot!!

Damn I miss that guy...

He & the Pedrobot would be an interesting comparison too!

What was the competition like back then ? You should do some research before posting knobhead comments like that.
Ago raced in the days of when men were men and all that, meaning if you made a mistake, ran wide or engine fault, then there was a high chance you will pay for it with your life.
GP racing claimed many lives of young .... hot riders back then.
Balls of steel, or just a fool ?

Ago raced and beat the best riders in the world more times than any other rider, so he is the best of all time.

Yes he did, and they all beat him in turn, it was give and take - the only one he could never beat, for the couple of years they raced against each other, was Jarno Saarinen

Ah BTW, those who say that the riders back then were no good -

Not a very good analogy on Wilt Chamberlain. As a former college ball player,i can assure you,In his prime,Wilt would have matched up just fine with todays post players. He wouldnt average 50 points and 25 rebounds but he would be dominant just the same.Plus he wasnt the only big black dude, you might have heard of a guy named Bill Russell, another guy that would be just fine in todays game.

You betray your ignorance. If YOU actually did some research, you would know that the bulk of Ago's titles came when his main competition went to a lesser ride.

Since masturbation is good for you (or that's my excuse and I am sticking to it), mental masturbation must be good for you as well. Anway taking that idea to it's logical conclusion then all discussions on this board are pretty pointless.

Ultimately, of course, we can't come to any definitive conclusions but only by comparing rider to rider, bike to bike, era to era can we put what we see into some sort of context and make sense of it all, otherwise it's just riders on bikes going fast.

So there it is boys and girls. The guy who has won the most ever, "is a joke."

It took me about 4-5 minutes before I could post to that, and frankly, my stomach was numb from the laughing.

Actually Skid, I think from what I'm reading, your great-great-grandchild could kick Rossi's ... right now. Ghosts are some vicious little mothatfukers.

The best gear of the day was a cotton over-all and a leather-skin helmet. But hey, who needs all that fancy safety gear and run-off when you're only doing a 100+mph on tires better suited for the tour de France.
