Race Direction has rejected a protest by Jorge Lorenzo's team manager for 'unsporting behaviour' by Alvaro Bautista on the last lap of Sunday's 250cc Italian Grand Prix.
Reigning 250cc world champion Lorenzo and current 125cc world champion Bautista clashed as the latter dived inside the #1 for second position. Lorenzo was bumped wide by the contact and subsequently fell from his Fortuna Aprilia, while Bautista went on to take his first quarter-litre victory after passing team-mate Alex de Angelis on the run to the line.
"On Sunday 3 June, after the 250cc race, Mr Dani Amatrian, Team Manager of the Team Fortuna Aprilia, lodged a protest against rider n° 19 Alvaro Bautista for anti-sportive behaviour towards the rider of his team, n° 1 Jorge Lorenzo," read an FIM statement.
"After watching various images of the incident and listening to the declaration of all the people who attended the hearing, according to Art. 3.3.1.2 of the 2007 FIM Road Racing World Championship Grand Prix Regulations, the Race Direction has decided that the protest was acceptable but unfounded.
"No appeal has been lodged.
"The decision of the Race Direction is final."
Lorenzo remounted to finish eighth and still holds a commanding 27 point lead, having won four of the previous five races leading up to Mugello.
