Race Direction has rejected a protest by Jorge Lorenzo's team manager for 'unsporting behaviour' by Alvaro Bautista on the last lap of Sunday's 250cc Italian Grand Prix.

Reigning 250cc world champion Lorenzo and current 125cc world champion Bautista clashed as the latter dived inside the #1 for second position. Lorenzo was bumped wide by the contact and subsequently fell from his Fortuna Aprilia, while Bautista went on to take his first quarter-litre victory after passing team-mate Alex de Angelis on the run to the line.

"On Sunday 3 June, after the 250cc race, Mr Dani Amatrian, Team Manager of the Team Fortuna Aprilia, lodged a protest against rider n° 19 Alvaro Bautista for anti-sportive behaviour towards the rider of his team, n° 1 Jorge Lorenzo," read an FIM statement.

"After watching various images of the incident and listening to the declaration of all the people who attended the hearing, according to Art. 3.3.1.2 of the 2007 FIM Road Racing World Championship Grand Prix Regulations, the Race Direction has decided that the protest was acceptable but unfounded.

"No appeal has been lodged.

"The decision of the Race Direction is final."

Lorenzo remounted to finish eighth and still holds a commanding 27 point lead, having won four of the previous five races leading up to Mugello.

i wonder if kallio's team protested against lorenzo, im rapidly going off lorenzo.

He smacked into Dovi in Lemans (mistake?), he puts a close move on Kallio, but safe, but he nerfs his exhaust and puts him out of the race.

Monkey see, monkey do?

I wonder if that attitude will endear him in GP?

Im going to cross my fingers for a week and pray that next week Alvaro,Hector and Jorge all make the podium with Jorge coming 2nd or 3rd i just would love to see how Jorge's swollen head would react to sharing a podium with these two men.

he just races hard! alot like some others out there. JORGE LORENZO!!! champion!!! get use to it!

Im a big fan of Lorenzo, but he should of picked the bike up i.e run into the gravel, instead he tries to turn it on the grass or astroturf, whatever the green .... is. Its a split second decision, but leaning on the green wasn't good. The pass was hard and it looks as though Bautista rode in there like it was a 125.

Im starting to like Bautista even more, he is a hard rider and will do whatever it takes to get to the front, much like Lorenzo in his first 250 year. These are the riders that can win races and championships because they don't settle and I think its fantastic. Bautista seems like a decent bloke off the bike. Once he realises hes not riding a 125 and settles into the 250 he'll be the favorite for next year.

Best pass of the day in all classes in my opinion.

I can understand the protest, but I'm sure it was a token gesture in support of their rider, just part of the process of diffusing the situation professionally. It was clever the way the team lined up in support and ushered him away from any public controversy, when it was obvious the rider was fuming..

I say give 'em as many tyres as they like, limit the support crew to 3, and let's see a proper fight!!!!

amen to that!

lorenzo should be grateful he got eighth place when shouldnt have even been on the grid in the first place...

1. I wouldn't say Lorenzo was deserving of that outcome, it was unfortunae that the pass nocked Jorge off the track rather than just offline.

2. He's a racer at the end of the day, remember those people who like to compete. I think riding from 20th to 1st and then being nocked off would really piss most riders off.

I think this is the case, the team needed to make Jorge feel supported, and they did that. The protest was clearly a waste of time though, it was a hard but fair move. Remember that Jorge isn't the only hot blooded european in his team, i'd imagine a few others were pretty angry about the situation also, but they'll get over it.

The le mans situation was obviously an accident, to suggest otherwise of highly foolish of you. As for the kallio pass it was hard but fair (like the bautista one), but you must be able to see the difference between a hard pass where someone gets rubbed up a bit and one were a rider goes down. Also Kallios bike was broken and the incident on the straight was not jorges fault at all.

I agreem, that situation was questionable and i think it is the responsibility of race direction to clear that up so it doesn't happen again. Lorenzo was lucky to be included in the race, but it would be hard to feel like that having been nocked off from the leading battle.

1. It was an accident, but these incidents are becoming far too often, I remember he collided with someone in Quali/practice. It's becoming harder for me to defend him when he does it on a regular basis.

2. There is currently no proof to suggest that Kallios bike had broken down at all, except for a bad exit.

3. I like his celebrations, but they're becoming a bit....weary. This Lorenzo land .... is boring now, can't he figure out something else?

1. I don't think he has had any significant commings together this year outside of the Le Mans incident which i think was a unfortunate case of crossing lines in a close battle. Before that the last thing of this nature i remember is the le mans 06 Locatelli incident, which was rubbish. But lorenzo is a far better rider and a much more mature level headed man compared to a year ago.

2. Well it looked to me to be clearly slowing down dramaticaly, plus he would have been able to continue for more distance had the silencer been the only problem. Pirkkalan GP claims it was an electrical failiure in the 125/250cc thread, but you'd have to ask him to confirm his source if your still not convinced.

3. You may be bored of the celebrations but thats because you don't enjoy him winning, he puts on the show for his fans and they like it

....... excellent celebration on sunday! i qonder if anyone would complain if he just looked stoned faced when he wins races?
