2024 World Superbike - Round 1 - Phillip Island

What can you say about Iannone fucken marvouls, four years out, wait till he gets his confidence back.

Iannone is a fruit cake, but he demonstrated how much the fans and the racing industry lost when he was stitched up by the sport court, who had people on the board of the testing agency. Shocking corruption on display.

The race was interesting, if you were looking at rider performance, but it was somewhat uninteresting for the manufacturers since Ducati cleared off easily with everyone else fighting for second. Bulega's strength doesn't bode well for the season because Yamaha and Kawasaki have taken a half step back and BMW has taken a half step forward. It's a long season, and not every circuit will have tire-shredding grip, but at first glance, Ducati may have extended their advantage by taking on Bulega and Iannone.

Did Bassani get a penalty for sending Gardener sliding into the grass at MG?

Interesting race to say the least. I wasn't surprised about Bulega's performance and while I didn't expect to see him on the podium it also didn't surprise me that Iannone still knows how to ride a bike.
Johnny was way off compared to Locatelli. Idk what happened during his pit stop but even before the pit stop he was only running around 10th.
Bautista probably still isn't at 100%, will be interesting how his season develops, I'm sure it won't be a walkover like last year though.
I thought Kawasaki would fade into obscurity without Johnny but Lowes was right up there.
sliding into the grass at MG?
He got a long lap.

When was the last race where all 3 of Toprak, Rea and Bautista weren’t on the podium?

Estoril Superpole race in 2021, I think

WSSP race was decent, despite the huge gap at the front. I expected Manzi to clear off this season, but Montella crushed the field. Schrotter scored a nice result for MV, and nice to see Ollie Bayliss in the top 5. Baldasarri had an unfortunate return to Supersport, but I think he will factor later in the season. Huertas didn't finish a single lap, losing pole for Race 2. Ugly start for him. Failing to finish several quick laps in Race 1 is a major penalty this year.

I don't think his bike has been right all weekend. In practice he was complaining of some sort of a vibration issue. Don't know if it got sorted out. I'm glad for Loca and I hope he is at the sharp end of it this year. It's early days but Beluga (yes, I know) looks to be at home on the Ducati.

Perhaps the Yamaha doesn’t support the settings that Rea is used to with the end result causing chattering? If my guess is right then Rea will have to change his ride style more.

Beloga might be the first rider to come from WSS who won his first WSBK race

Superpole race was awesome. Battles the entire race distance throughout the grid. Sad to see Iannone drop back with a problem, but it was nice to see A Lowes pick up a win. Bautista put in a gritty ride, and Locatelli was good again, and Remy was feisty at home.

What can you say about Toprak? He gets on the podium. Not another Bimmer in the top-10. Crazy.

Race 2 was awesome and I think we're in for a fun season. Don't see anyone running away with it.
I'm baffled by Alex. Round the outside of Bautista on the final lap, what a move.
Johnny actually had a good race before the crash. That and Locatelli's performance does give me some hope for the rest of the season.
It seems like there are legitimately four manufacturers that can compete for wins on speed.

I believe in Rea, the superbiker almighty,
creator of 6 world titles.
I believe in Pere Riba, his mechanic, our Talisman.
He was conceived by the negligence of ten kate
and born of the Hammamatsu ninja.
He suffered under HRC ,
was crucified on powerslide, quit Honda, and moved to Kawa.
He descended to the dead.
On the first race he won again.
He ascended onto the podium,
and is seated at the right hand of third place.
He will come again to judge the riding of the grid.
I believe in the Jonathan Rea,
the holy Rea fanclub,
the communiun and banter between his fans ,
the forgiveness of our lust for Ducati,
the resurrection of the Yamaha,
and a seventh world title. Amen.

Iannone has done a lot better than most would of anticipated after a 4 year layoff;
Race 1 - 3rd
Superpole Race - 14th after having a technical difficulty
Race 2 - 4th

I recall that Iannone did well on the Suzuki at PI the year that Suzuki had stuffed the engine running too light a crankshaft.

The team Iannone is riding for, how did they go last year?

The hand that giveth taketh away. Toprak and BMW went pop and took out other riders in the process it seems. Alex was impressive this weekend, and Kawasaki holding the lead heading into Round 2 is good for the championship. When the tires work correctly, on track events will probably stabilize, but the championship has a lot of possibilities at the moment.

Surprised by area’s terrible opening. I thought he was in the strongest position given Yamaha’s track record and the weakening of his main rivals. But it hasn’t worked out for him so far, and his modest pace in testing may have actually been maximum effort from him.

Yamaha are in an unexpectedly tough spot, though Locatelli is progressing, and Remy might step up. It’s nice for events to defy expectations for a change in a seemingly authentic way.

Bummer to see Locatelli go down on the last lap but he was going for it. Lowe's move on the outside must have made Bautista say "WTF" in his helmet. I read Rea was conscious but didn't see the extent of any injuries. Hope he is okay. Don't see many crashes at T-11 at PI. Nasty high-side I presume. I think Crazy Joe will breathe life into this season. Glad he's back. Dammit, another month to wait for the next SBK race.
