2024 World Superbike - Portimão

Johnny doing his best Marquez impression. What a save
Yeah he looked really good today... For about three laps, then he apparently fried his tires and dropped to 15th.
Toprak had to fight for it today and a fun fight it was.

Razgatlioglu having a bad weekend and still coming out on top! Apart from a bad injury or mechanical issues, there is no stopping him at the moment.

Really enjoyed Petrux ride as well.

Carrasco displaying some shocking race craft in the WCR race. Very strange, as she is probably the most experienced rider on the grid as well.

Congrats to Toprak notching 12 consecutive wins for the first time in WSBK history. Yesterday was not an easy win. Personally, I thought he should think about the championship and sit behind Petrucci, but Bautista had late pace, and the cushion Toprak built earlier in the race paid off. Let's see if he can make it a baker's dozen.

Nice riding from Lowes in the Superpole race. Kawasaki needed that.

And what makes this domination easier to watch than Merc or Red Bull in F1 and Ducati in MotoGP is that it’s purely down to the rider. BMW is by no means the best bike on the grid.
Just like Marc in the 2010s.

I would imagine Toprak's bike lost a bit of balance due to the missing winglet but he still manages to break later than everyone else.
Bautista had to give it absolutely everything and pushed it over the limit.

Must have been one heck of a battle for 8th with position changing hands several times a lap but we didn't get to see any of it due to the action at the front.

Toprak was obviously outstanding but hats off to Bulega for a gutsy effort. Dealing with illness (flu?) and in that heat must have been brutal. He looked spent in parc ferme. Alex Lowes also with a good weekend.
Indeed. I think Toprak would have popped a vain in his head if he lost over the line again 😄

Toprak, what else can be said?

The second and third divisions had good outcomes this round as it becomes tighter at the top.

After Sunday's races, we can now say that the MotoGP crashes from the top riders aren't anomalies. All categories had at least one important crash...

Even when Toprak has lost a wing, he can still bring it home in first place. He's the best rider on the grid, and I hope he brings home the championship, but I was hoping for a battle, maybe even a Ducati win in Race 2. But Bautista had other ideas, and Toprak did yeoman's work toying with Bulega before turning up the wick on the last lap.

He is a phenom, and it saddens me that the motorcycle racing industry is not producing enough world class riders in the production classes to challenge him. I guess the removal of super concessions is about the only thing that can slow him down. Next season could be interesting.

Got to give another shout out to Carter Thompson the 16 teen year old Ozzie that got another Sub ride in SSP-300 last weekend at Portimao, a track that has never ridden on before.

Race 1 got pushed wide in turn 3 was 15th on the first lap, worked his way back up to be 5th on the last lap, to take second place.

I have no doubt that he can get a ride in SSP-300 next rear, but he would be better off doing Red Bull Rookies again next year, then he would be old enough to enter Moto3, where his future would be assured.
