Yamaha USA have announced their plans today. They will field Jason DiSalvo, Jamie Hacking and new to the team Eric Bostrom in Superstock, Hacking in Supersport and DiSalvo and Bostrom in Formula Xtreme. If you haven't put it together yet I will spell it out for you, Yamaha have backed out of AMA SBK again. They are now the sole factory out of AMA SBK since Kawasaki's announcement to rejoin the series in 2006 fielding Tommy and Roger Hayden.

You may be thinking to yourself: "Yes, but surely they will face good competition in the classes they have chosen to enter." If you are thinking that you are kidding yourself. DiSalvo and Bostrom will take over where Duhamel and Zemke left off in 2003 and 2004 as the only factory riders in the class. Good luck Yamaha, you'll need it beating teenagers racing out of their vans. The much contested Supersport title will be much less contested in 2006, the only factory riders Hacking and Yamaha face will be Roger Hayden with Kawasaki and Ben Spies with Suzuki. I'm not sure I've heard what Honda's factory plans are for 600cc racing but I believe they are a SBK only program for 2006. Finally, Yamaha have put all their riders in the Superstock class. Factory supported Yamaha fielding Bostrom, DiSalvo and Hacking versus Aaron Yates of Suzuki and a bunch of satellite teams.

So here's to Yamaha, by being a bunch of ....... and backing out of AMA SBK, once again, have guaranteed themselves two AMA championships in Superstock and Formula Xtreme in 2006. Congratulations boys, when you grow a pair and let two of the biggest names in American road racing (Bostrom and DiSalvo) ride with the big boys I will support you again. Until then, piss off.

Sincerely,

One angry American SBK fan

harsh...but i agree.

Damnit Ooost you beat me to it!!

I agree with it being a bad decision of Yamaha not being in the SBK class. They have the FX title guaranteed. Next year Spies will be on a new GSX-R he has been on outdated equipment so now he is on an even playing field with the rest so I would say it will be a Yamaha and Suzuki affair and there will be good close races. It will also be a good fight for the Supoerstock title. Yates will not let it go easily.

The Supersport will be close between Hayden, Spies and Hacking but I think Roger will bring it home. In all honesty I don't believe Yates stands a chance against EBoz.

It seems you've got too many categories there. I think 3 (SBK, SS, SStock) is more than enough.

I couldn't agree more. However, the problem is you can't tell the AMA anything. Whatever their formula is in classes, rules, venues etc. is the best. Who's looking forward to a season with nine, yes I said NINE, total hosts. Should be spectacular stuff.

I don't know about a lock with a FX championship this season. I think they will have their hands full with Miguel Duhamel. That guy rules the 600's. At least it won't be a honda run-away season.

Duhammel and American Honda will not be in FX this year. The only major team to be able to challenge the Yamahas this year will be the Erion Honda team.

Spot on Xb. And as much as I respect Aaron Gobert and Josh Hayes they don't stand a chance against the factory R6's piloted by Eric Bostrom and Jason DiSalvo.

The reason you've never seen me like this Marbs is because I have never had a reason to get so frustrated. A factory like Yamaha has no excuse for not fielding a factory effort in the SBK class. Ducati, who mind you are in financial trouble, are still fielding a factory AMA SBK effort. For a company who touts their machines as the best in class so often they certainly don't back the R1 very well.

WHAT!! I can't believe I didn't hear about this. Did honda leave because they actually had competition this year? Was there a real reason why they wouldn't compete in a series they have owned for the past few years.

Ducati has always seems to be in financial trouble.

They left before Yamaha made their announcement to join FX. I believe the reason they left is because they received no credibility for winning the championship with a full factory effort. That's why the Honda flag will be carried by Erion in FX. Now, Honda actually looks like a credible team in the AMA pit and Yamaha is the new laughing stock.

another reason honda pulled the plug on fx was they want to concentrate all resources to taking the sbk title from suzuki.

Good luck Honda, you're going to need more than Miguel Duhamel and Jake Zemke to wrestle the title from Mladin, they'll be lucky to place a rider in the top 5.
