Hi guys

I have thought for years that Yamaha were the perfect team, their M1's were revered the world over & rarely were a handful for their respective riders & never broke down during a race.

Now i may not be a fan of Lorenzo but neither am i a particular fan of Spies or Rossi but is it me or is it that as soon as another rider, especially another Yamaha rider gets anywhere near Jorge let alone beats him that their bike all of a sudden becomes an un-rideable unreliable pos.

As soon as Ben won in Assen & turned in good results week after week up to the end of the season when he just got beat to the line by Stoner at valencia, his bike all of a sudden started to basically slow done & fall apart.

This season so far Rossi was fast at the first race in Qatar & many people made noises to the effect that he was back & ready to munch anyone in his way to the title. I dont see this as like Keshav has said i think he is done to run at the level needed to win the title now. Since those mutterings were put out there though his bike too has seemingly slowed recording 4 km down on the main straight at Mugello & having gone from perfectly reliable in Qatar to having a fd brake disc in Austin, Dodgy tyre (apparently) in Jerez & now a clutch problem in Mugello.

Im not usually someone to go for these sort of theories but there seems  a bit too much coincidence here??

Scott and Cal - The perfect team

I'm not sure Cal would agree to riding below Scott.  You know, Cal is half the man that Scotty is...

To OP, uhm, well, I think VR was doing all right at Mugello...then Bautista happened.

Vale is old, Spies had a bad run, JL is ....... fast. If anything Yamaha would be turning up the number 2 bike to put Vale in front of Pedro to take points away to help Lorenzo.

I think the first few races of the season you can get lucky with others not setting the bike up to its optimum, Qatar for example, Dani clearly F'd his set up making Rossi look a lot better. Once everyone gets the bike running well, the cracks start to show, unfortunately Rossi (probably due to his age) can't ride the bike as fast as Lorenzo anymore, even when set up optimally.

Spies is just a long continuous brain fart.

That team is cursed. Jorge put a hex on Valentino Rossi's side of the garage so he has one less competitor in the race. I think the hex was probably from the last time they were teammates, since Ben Spies seemed to have more mechanical failures than actual mistakes. The worst ones were the frame breaking in Laguna Seca and the engine blowing at Indianapolis. The mechanics that worked on Spies bikes should be fired and should feel like morons.

I think we will be seeing a lot more mechanical problems this year with Rossi's bike. When was the last time Lorenzo had a mechanical problem? Would you say his performance at Le Mans was due to a mechanical malfunction or just poor setup? I'm leaning towards poor setup. His side of the garage is perfect, the other side is a train wreck.

Haha, I've been waiting for this kind of stuff to get posted.

I say it was mean old Ezy. He used his powers to move poor Vale out of the Ducati team and put him on the POS Yamaha, knowing it would be the only way to prevent the ROSSI-Ducati domination that was about to set in. Obviously, the sport was manipulated for the sake of entertainment. For shame!!

The whole Spies bike is cursed is a bit ......... Spies chucked it down the road more times than he had mechanical failures - potentially adding to his mechanical problems. Maybe his crew team wasn't up to scratch as well, but the Factory hardly needed to sabotage him. They needed him to take points off Dani and Casey and he didn't do it, even when his bike didn't break.

Well said.

When Spies moved to Tech3 (and looked good), he brought Houseworth with him, but he didn't displace anyone in the Tech3 garage. So, Houseworth had the benefit of the very experienced Tech3 team principals and crew chiefs to fall back on.

When he moved to Yamaha factory and brought Houseworth with him, he was replacing an experienced crew chief and no longer did Houseworth have anyone to hold his hand.

At the same time, Spies started to experience a bunch of mechanical and logistical problems.

I wouldn't state it as gospel, but I think there is a case to be made that his crew chief isn't up to the job.
