Yamaha Fiat Livery

So I finally had a chance to watch Lemans and I have to say I'm starting to like Lorenzo more and more ech race. But this got me thinking, its clear that even though Rossi and Lorenzo are teammates they sure have some close battles, paint rubbing corner exits etc that usually only occurs with other teams riders. Either way its great racing hands down. But why is it that teams run the same livery? Just like Hockey here in the states, there's a home jersy and an away jersy. Why not the same for teams. Couldn't yamaha offer a white bike and a blue bike. As this would help distance the fact they are actual team mates when in thruth they really aren't. I mean a wall is a wall in the pits right. Rossi has already said this. It would be cool if say the winner on the team got to pick his color for the next round. I know they sometimes have a special livery for races say Laguna, but those are one off's and I like that. I recall Yamaha's 50th anniversary I think it was the yellow white and black, sweet something different. Is there something I'm missing here or a rule that says they cant?

I guess I look back at AMA when it was the Ben & Matt show and man did it get boring watching two suzukis circle the track time and time again, twin bikes up front again, if one of them was at least solid blue for one race it would be a bit more refreshing.

Hello Tikki, its all about the sponsor getting the max out of the TV coverage.

Oh I get that but would hurt having a blue bike and white bike. Im not talking about changing the logo or its placement. They could still be similar but not exact.

not unheard off a few times there been changes esp for home races colin horney etc etc

yep but those are more one offs like I said. I love special livery. I just dont see why teammate bikes are identical. I would expect Rossi to have special livery for his home race. With that though why not Rossi white bike, Lorenzo blue bike, slightly different yet still similar.

The BSB Yamaha R6 Cup, (it may well have been the R1 Cup by then), did adopt a 'yellow jersey' Tour De France idea, in which the winner of the previous race rode a black and yellow machine. I think the one off promotions are great, but as Otis say's the sponsors primarily govern this, and colour schemes are dictated by corporate branding.

I loved the trad Yamaha commemorative red and white speed block livery used at Valencia in '05

That's just what I was going to say, they should have kept that or variations on it.

EDIT: the '05 Laguna is pretty nice too

Concur, the yellow and black.

I used to have an RD 400 in the red white an black, which is perhaps why I am so fond of it

I´m very sorry to see Livio Suppo leave. I think he was key in Ducatí´s Championship and recent success. He managed to keep a small factory competitive against giants like Yamaha, Honda and Suzuki but on many counts Ducati has outperformed all of them (with a great deal of credit to Casey of course) His absence will be Ducati´s loss, and I believe he will be successful anywhere. I met him at Laguna Seca, and he is a really cool guy.

Are you unfamiliar with the concept of sponsorship in motorsport?

I wonder what Lorenzo is going to come up with this weekend to honor his footy friends? Rossi did the pink 4 years ago, which proves his a ..., maybe he was dating one of the Italian football players at the time

That was 2 years ago for the euros when Rossi did blue and pink. 4 years ago he just put a shirt on after the race

My bad, it was just that I saw a completely off topic post about casey, and thought it must have been you. The ugg boots had me convinced.
