Yamaha cutting their racing budget

Ive been reading that yamaha is cutting their racing budget by as much as 75%

here in the states they parted waves with graves for at least the 600 cc class and not too sure about the suberbike class

whats going on with yamaha? will it affect their motogp budget? can someone shed some light on this as its hard to find anything on it.

Yamaha’s MotoGP effort is run by Yamaha Motor Europe and has nothing to do with Yamaha US.

Road racing in the USA does not have the marketing impact that it did 20 years ago. sales demographics and market positioning has also changed drastically in the last 20 years... Off road racing still vastly supersedes road racing in the USA, and Yamaha is probably better off focusing resources there.

That is true, but all the company's investments are planned and handled by Yamaha's headquarters in Japan

Within their budget and milieu Yamaha Europe are autonomous. Latest news is Yamaha Europe is dramatically INCREASING its racing budget.

Yes, I doubt sportsbike sales in the USA or participation in whatever the AMA superbike series has become now loom very large in Yamaha’s worldwide corporate strategy, while all the Asian kids who ride Yamaha postie bikes because they are Valentino fans probably do influence said strategy.

The US and most Euro markets (Outside the A1 and A2 classes) are declining in terms of motorcycle popularity. Asia and LatAm however, are booming. MotoGP is pretty popular in these markets. MotoAmerica isn’t.

I can see the reason for Yamaha’s prioritizarion.

It surprises me it has taken this long to create a european test team. Only a big increase in budget is going to support that.

MotoAmerica is not very popular here. Most motorcycle racing (motocross aside) is not popular here. The only place you run into racing fans is at track days, generally.

Most of the instructors I work with are race fans and even then they're mostly GP fans.

Kinda the same in Australia. We have speedway, superbikes, lower classes etc. There are healthy race clubs dotted all over the country, even where I live which is far from mass populated areas. Motorcycle racing is a niche sport, and sadly for me I only know about 10 people whom follow motogp, and even then they don't carry the passion that I, and all of you do.

Club racing back in the day was much more accessible because so many riders were doing run-what-yah-brung and doing their own wrenching. Nowadays, it's much more expensive to race.

Amen to that. I caught the tail end of accessibility for club racing in SoCal in the late 90’s and it was gentrifying even then.

I thought there was supposed to be a chance they were going back at some point. Never heard why it was removed.

Tho, I actually I meant to say not before they ....-can Indy. I would like to see a race at Austin. You know how it is,
