Here is the preview of testing for today and tomorrow.

Teams look ahead to 2010 with Portimao test.

Just two days after the final round of the 2009 World Superbike Championship, the teams are already looking to 2010

A total of 22 riders will take to the track this week to participate in post-season testing at Portimao, as several teams begin their early preparations for World Superbikes 2010.

Each manufacturer will be present in Portugal, save for BMW, with a number of teams taking the opportunity to get acquainted with new riders ahead of an intense off-season of development.

Leading the way is Suzuki Alstare, who will welcome Leon Haslam to the team, the Briton joining Sylvain Guintoli, who marked his World Superbike debut this weekend with a fine run to the top ten in race two.

Many eyes will be on Yamaha too as James Toseland prepares to appear on the title-winning R1 for the first time in Portugal, along with new World Supersport Champion Cal Crutchlow.

Ten Kate Honda is due to test with Jonathan Rea and new signing Max Neukirchner, who will appear on a bike for the first time since injuring himself during testing back in July, while Ducati Xerox will look to get over their disappointment of missing out on the 2009 title by getting ready for 2010 with its unchanged line-up of Noriyuki Haga and Michel Fabrizio.

Aprilia and Kawasaki, meanwhile, will be present with three riders each, the former confirmed to test Max Biaggi and Leon Camier, plus one other. Kawasaki, however, isn't expected to test with Chris Vermeulen due to contract restraints, while Tom Sykes is likely to be sidelined with the injury that forced him out of the final round.

Three privateer teams will also take to the track in Portimao, DFX Corse, Althea Ducati and one other, while Ten Kate Honda will be joined by a further three from the Supersport ranks.

Action takes place from 09.00 to 13.00 and then again from 14.00 to 17.00.

seems like not many people are noticing how good jt did? he had never riden portimao before either, and he was like 0.5 seconds faster than spies in his first race, who rode 1.43.647 seconds in his first race in portimao

what makes people think spies can do good in motogp is kinda a mystery to me. yes the boy got tallent, so does jt. jt cant do .... in motogp, why would ben be any better.

I dont remember
<
but lets try wiki.... ducati 2001? 24 races, no poles, no podiums, 14th place in championship at the end of the race.

dont see how that has anything to do with the fact that JT was 0.5 sec faster than ben tho. JT cant even get close to a podium in motogp, but he is faster than ben. yes I know we should give ben some time to adjust to motogp. I agree that what he has done in wsbk is very impressive, wether or not thats cause of the quality in wsbk (suckiness of the riders) or if ben is really THAT good... you know bayliss was champ, haga got 2nd FAR behind him. bayliss won on the duc in motogp that year too. haga got 2nd closely behind ben, so Im not sure if ben is really that good. I think people over estimate him
<
like he has to get top 5 in championship next year, while I say top 10 would be really impressive already. the quali in motogp is very high, everyone is talented (yes I have to admit that even canepa and co are talented
<

the result of tomorrows race will tell us all a lot on just how good ben spies is. IMO he will show Jt how it is done. thats got nothing to do with his achievements, you can just see how well he rides, at least, i can.

Everyone rode a second quicker in the Port test. Pirelli brought in new rubber that Rea said was good for more than a second, combine that with track conditions and you have everyone beating Spies time. Portimao was dominated by Spies. Where was all the .5-1 second quicker guys on race weekend

Not to mention that those are not official times. Some were even off of a team members stopwatch.

I still honestly can't comprehend people comparing Spies' results to Toseland's results in WSBK and coming to the conclusion that Spies has been no more impressive. No offense, Mari.

The stats speak for themselves, Spies had as many wins in one season on tracks he had never seen, as Toseland had in six full seasons plus eight rounds.

what i meant was that with some riders, you can just see that they will be at/near the front even without "evidence". i see that in Spies and am amazed that its not plainly visible to every one else.

Thanks for the post. Some people can be so willfully blind.

Yeah, would have liked to see Crutchlow and Laverty in Moto2. Although watching Crutchlow in WSBK should be a blast and I'm interested to see who can challenge Laverty on a consistent basis now.
