What might have been had Nicky gone from factory Ducati GP to factory Ducati Wsbk. Sigh. I can't watch this .... and not constantly think about Nicky.

Honda's participation in Wsbk is criminal. .... Honda.

Congrats to Melandri. Taking that free ride with Ducati was the best decision to revive his career now it's paying off. Though none of these guys should ever ride for free considering how the promoters line their pockets with cash. Dorna is slowly killing Wsbk to make GP 'appear' better, good for them the mechanism of manipulation for GP is swallowed whole by mist of the ignorant gullible and naive spectator masses. Wsbk used to be great, now it's barely compelling to a race fan.

Well done to Ant West, Leandro Mercado and Jake Gagne for trying to advance their careers. They're on .... equipment, but you never know what can happen.

With these new rules of punishing winners this series is dead to me. Does Melandri loss a body part now that he won a race.

A Honda just went around two Ducatis and a Kawasaki down Gardener straight.

The rev drop certainly slowed down the lead factories.

Heart stopping second superbike race! Supersport was good too, even if it was a sprint 9 lap race after the red flag. Gutted for Ant West, let down by a mechanical. Good races overall, Sandro Cortese on podium in his SSP debut .

Flag to Flag race.

Something wrong with the tyres? Pirelli ...... up?

Tyre change on motorcycle with a minimum pitlane time of 63 seconds.

Had to change the rules to stop the Kwaks.

Also PI has been terrible on tyres since they resurfaced it a few years ago.

Race 2 was quite interesting and had a hell of a finish with Melandri pipping Rea at the line just barely. Chaz Davies looked like he was going to run away with the race till he ...... up at MG. I really think Davies is a guy who can't get out of his own way. He was supposed to mount a challenge last year that never materialized and he was outridden by Marco Melandri this weekend.

Wasn't a fan of the flag-to-flag race since it was too reminiscent of the 2013 GP debacle. But it worked out better than I thought.

The CBR1000RR looked better in Camier's hands but I doubt the bike has improved enough getting away from Phillip Island. Both of the Yamaha R1's looked pretty good as well. We'll see if Melandri can build on the momentum.

Overall it was a good opener with drama and close racing. Hopefully this means it won't be another Kawasaki/Rea romp this year. Another thing I have to say is Rea's late braking into turn 1 was phenomenal. I don't know how he managed to keep the bike on line into the Southern Loop.

Also don't want to forget to mention Xavi Fores' inspired ride to the podium. He rode a great race, but just wasn't able to fend off Rea's slipstream attack.

Flag to Flag

Was Race 2 made flag to flag because of the tire issues in Race 1 or was there something else going on?

It was made because the ducati single swingarm is so much faster to swap tyres.

Did they have to chug a beer and spin around in a ciircle before getting back on the bike? I'm with provol the punish the winner rule has me out of this series.

Kind of makes sense, i figured it was because some other team took that long in a practice swap and since it is an anomaly to pit they didnt want it to decide the race.

RJ, I feel you brother, been tough for me to watch WSBK, but I'm slowly coming back around.
I'll try and drop in more often this season.

Entertaining second sbk race at Donington, finally this weekend J. Rea looked (a little more) human. So courteous about losing, he blamed nobody but himself, classy rider, hard not to like him.
If we don`t count the (double) winner, result of the day goes to Sofuoglu`s heir, Razgatioglu. I hope he`ll become Rea`s mate at factory Kawasaki (he`s already contracted), he surely looks to be a very promising rider.

NIce race in wss300 too.

Yeah some good racing, thing is though all the other guys are tripping themselves up and Rea is still racking up the podiums, he's already 64 points ahead of Davies who realistically is the only other rider I think can challenge him but he needs to string a few wins together and hope Rea has a few DNF's or none podium finishes. VDM, Sykes and Melandri just aren't consistent enough.

Agree, I don`t have high hopes for a different rider than Rea for 2018 crown. Like Lorenzo to Yamaha, he is the perfect fit for Kawasaki, and i really understand the organizers, they are trying to change technicalities as the season progress to create some diversity in race results (with little outcome till now though).
