Great questions Lil Red.

I have a question too, was this dangerous in the context of the argument made against strakes?

He was fortunate he did not break his peg or gear lever, those few points could be crucial

The winglets will add down force on the front during cornering just like an F1 car, especially in the faster corners. Coupled with the heavy braking they may in fact overload the front tyre more than normal, might be why we are seeing so many front End crashes until the riders get used to them

The difference also is that an f1 car always has consistent contact patches with the tyre regardless of going down the straight or round a corner. Bikes patches are reduced when cornering and with any extra down force from winglets could overload the tyre

Actually, motorcycle contact patches are higher when cornering.

Simplified, but it is the best thing I could find apart from my degree notes.

Thanks for that good diagram, what I should have said is the forces from leaning the bike over during cornering including the extra downforce from winglets could overload the tyre easier than without them.
