It's almost been 10 years since Nicky Hayden won his title, and there simply are no Americans out there other than Nicky. Once he is gone, we won't have anyone from the USA out there.

Are there any promising riders that we might see one day in MotoGP down the road, or are there just not any out there right now that have the potential to get that far?

It sucks that there have been many great American riders, and now they are just about extinct with Nicky Hayden's pending departure.

I honestly don't think its a question of talent as it is the willingness of GP to pick up Americans.

But if we are going to dream about possible Americans in GP, then here are a few names:

Cameron Beaubier MotoAmerica superbike champ
Joe Roberts MotoAmerica Supersport champ
PJ Jacobsen World Super Sport, this year has won a race, a 3rd and two 2nd places

Joe Roberts sounds promising...only 18 now, and definitely has the talent. Jesus.

So is this another case of whether Dorna sees any use in having an American rider on the grid or not? The benefit should be ....... obvious...to say nothing of how great it would be for the COTA if there was a competitive American rider on the grid.

Dorna have had meetings with MotoAmerica, so there is hope.

You can tell by the amount of posts on this thread the level of interest in another American champion

PJ is a good chap

I know America is doing it tough at the moment.. But you could almost extend this to, when will there be another non EU champ??

Aus doesnt have a great deal of talent coming through, Honda had hope for Miller, but I think it is a bit misplaced (hence no contract for '16)

Uk has smith / cuntslow, but are either of them championship worthy?

Other than those guys is there anyone non EU that can really challenge?

To be fair, GP did give Spies a go.....

I agree for the most part, but at least they have butts in the seats for 2016..

Love the topic, been waiting and reading as people post. I probably don't follow Moto American nearly as close as I should, but both names that came to mind have already been posted.

I was looking more for the input on what it would take for another yank to even get a ride.

How much do you feel is skills versus political .........?

Beat me to it. I don't know if Spies was "alien" material but with a more competent manager, more experienced crew and better luck in general - he could still be out there doing at least as well as Pedrosa or better. The guy suffered a perfect storm of bad choices and ...... luck.

Maybe a better topic may be 'when will we see another non-European champion'?

Asking as when you remove the Brits, Aussies and Americans you are left with a very high representation of Europeans which really whilst we all whinge and whine about it, shows the strengths of their junior race categories.

M1 gave Spies a go…….... yourself

Well the Tech 3 one did, it was just the 2012 factory one that seemed to hate him so much it ejected him every opportinity it got. And by eject him I don't mean crash, I mean literally the bike saide ".... off and get off me"..Laguna Seca and Indianapolis being prime examples.

I still think Uccio gave him food poisoning too...

May well be missing something here but ............ you aren't insinuating that Uccio still had access to the Yamaha hospitality kitchen whilst dressed in a red (non santa claus) outfit by chance ;)

Do we class Ben as a quitter?

Well...that shoulder injury really was bothering Casey. I guess the chip on it took its toll. Oh!

(Sorry, im channeling the mdub/jkd influence.)
