HRC may just have decided that they have done their marketing job in the USA and they put some effort into making Haden’s bike competitive for that race.
I fear however that they may just put all their efforts into getting Pedrosa up the points ladder and revert back to the treatment that was given to Haden before Indianapolis. This might make it very difficult for him to increase his position in the points standing.
Hopefully that won’t happen and Haden climbs up, but I doubt he will make 5 th place though.

Oh yes I can see Honda and Michelin giving him good equipment now he's decided to leave both of them.
So I voted no, due to his equipment.

I do wonder about his equipment but it is vastly improved since early in the season.

The pneumatic engine is capable of leaving the Suzukis, Yamahas, and customer Hondas for dead on the straights. Now that Pedrosa is gone, Nicky is in line to get the good Michelin stuff.

He should be ok if Michelin don't have anymore serious problems.

same thing i thought.

i think he could finish 6th this season if he keeps the momentum up. i don't think he's gonna catch dovi tho. his worst finish in a season was in 04, 8th place, so if he can get a place or 2 to 7th or 6th it's something. just beat pedrosa!
<

- Motegi is not a good track for Nicky and Michelin...so No chance there....Dovi and Colin have equal changes as Nicky here
- Phillip Island is a good track for Nicky, so he has a good shot here...assuming Colin and Dovi forget how to ride here...but he might beat CV here.
- Sepang is a Bridgestone track....so he could as well as Colin or Dovi here....but not likely to greatly improve
- Valencia is a Bridgetone track and a Pedrosa home race...and Dovi, Colin and CV will all want to finish strong where Nicky will be looking forward to monday and won't care anymore...

So my view is No, and he may even be caught by Elias in my opinion....

As was pointed out earlier 2nd is the first of the losers, so 5th......
I just hope he beats Pedrosa for the rest of season and puts a big middle finger up to Honda!

Helix: "Not even Edwards?
If Colin keeps getting results like he has in the last few races, Nicky could easily overtake him.
Vermi is more of a challenge, but there's Phillip Island coming up, and aren't the Suzuki's pretty weak there?"

1. I just don't believe the anomaly that was Indy is enough to indicate any big change in Nicky's season.

2. The debate is if everyone else continues to perform as they have can Nicky catch them. Of course if any of the others start doing much worse than their season averages then you can't really say Nicky's done any better, can you?

Colin needs to step out of MotoGP, I don't care how 'cool' of a guy he is..... if he ain't putting up the numbers, it's time for him to find another job. Only reason why he is still in MotoGP is because he's a likeable guy...not sure if that's his true self, or if he's selling himself..... either way, he is not good enough to be in MotoGP. I may sound harsh, but it's the truth you guys are afraid to admit to.

Nicky has said that this has been his worst season to date. 8th/5th is not where Nicky wants to be. Sure he is pissed off about 2008, but at the same time I think he will be content about a top ten finish considering how bad it has been. He will be glad the season is finaly over so he can forget about it and start to focus 100% on 2009. I'm just hoping the move to Ducati will salvage his Motogp career and he won't catch a bad case of Marco syndrome

You forgot that Shinya have always had results that were better than expected from him. Not only that, he always outperformed his teammates.......... except his rookie year when he was runner up to Olivier Jacque who was the Champion that year.

You know I have forgot, Shynia's results are not so great that people are going to remember, but I'll indulge you, lest go have a look
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shinya_Nakano#External_links

I like Shynia hes a cool guy and can ride fast, but there is nothing super about those stats. 6 wins in his Motogp career and all in his 250cc days.

World Championships : 0
Race starts : 150
Race Wins : 6
Podium finishes : 21
Pole positions : 5
Fastest laps : 9
Championship Points : 1159
2008 Championship position 10th (49 pts)

I think what you said about Colin holds thru for Shynia

" if he ain't putting up the numbers, it's time for him to find another job"

Wet practice in Motegi and it seems again Nicky & Lorenzo have been allowed to use Dani's Sachsenring wet tyres. Now look where Dani is on the timesheets. If Michelin were screwing every other Michelin rider to favour Dani, then why wouldn't they do it with their dry tyres too?
It's amazing how things have changed at Michelin since Dani & Puig have jumped ship.

Also strange how their favored rider(s) change. In the moring Hayden and Lorenzo, in the aftenoon Dovi.

Quick question - who's had more podiums this year? Shinya or Colin?

This is supposed to be the elite class of bike racing, having results that are 'better than expected' isn't good enough, Nakano has never looked like a race winner. Okay Colin has never won, but he's come close and seeing him on the podium is not an unexpected event.

Odd how the Kentuky Fried conspiracy works sometimes and not others.....

The grid is filled with riders that will never will a race and some that will be very lucky to see a podium....but who cares since it makes for good middle and back of the pack racing....

What is it you don't understand about wet tyres? It was a dry session for goodness sake.
All I'm asking is take a look at past results in the rain and take a look at the here and now. On equal wet weather tyres I would normally give you 5 to 1 if you wanted to bet on Lorenzo against Dovi on a damp or wet track.

As I said before - Dani is on stones now and is nowhere in the wet. If next year we are on a control tyre and Jorge again sux in the wet ( and I bet he will ) will you then admit to the possibility of Michelin favouring certain riders as far as their wet tyres are concerned?

I voted no. Salvage his season for what? He'll finish his season in a thoroughly professional manner. But I doubt he's going to set the world on fire and honda won't give him anything to help. He's leaving so he'll get the ".... you very much" honda good bye.

WTF?!!
Shinya has 3 podiums and 0 wins in EIGHT seasons of premire class racing.
Shinya is very consistent, but he has never and will never have a top 5 MotoGP season.

Colin Edwards has 10 podiums in 6 seasons.
Nicky has 23 podiums and 3 wins in 6 seasons. Nicky missed 2 races and is still AHEAD of Shinya. Are you on crack or just trying to tease us?
