Colin's best season was 2005 (no surprise, the M1 was unstoppable). Here are the important stats:

1. 4th position
2. 179 points
3. 0 wins
<

4. 3 podiums

The 2005 season was 17 rounds, Edwards had 0 DNF's.

Here are Colin's 2008 stats at 50% complete:

1. 5th position (currently)
2. 98 points
3. 0 - wins
4. 2 - podiums

This year Edwards is on pace for 196 points and 4 podiums. If Edwards does better in any stat column which one(s) will it be?

Personally, I think he can do it. He has a number of obstacles (B-stone tracks ahead, Rossi whining for development, improving Nicky, healing Lorenzo) but when you do the math he only needs 81 pts in 9 rounds. That's nine points a round or an average finish of 7th (I love easy math).

In theory, Stoner, Pedrosa, Hayden, Rossi, Lorenzo, and (insert hot rider of the moment) could finish in front at every round and Edwards could still beat the points.

I think he'll need more DNF's from Lorenzo to score 4th in the championship; though, and I can't imagine he'll post a win this season unless he wins a wet round. To beat the podiums stat, I think he needs to score another one quickly.

He had the times to finish 2nd at Assen but got balked twice by other riders crashing in front of him. He's got a pole position this year. He just seems to be having a good season. Unless Rossi, Stoner or Pedrosa DNF or injured and miss a few rounds, he'll probably get 4th or 5th again. But I think he'll beat the points earned from 2005.

But let's face it, after those 4 riders (rossi, stoner, pedrosa and lorenzo) he probably is the next best rider with a good enough package to do it. Hayden is the darkhorse, but I don't think the package is there. Hayden might get on some podiums but he'll end up breaking, in the gravel or something else too often to challenge for final spot.

Plus we have the two US rounds ahead, if he keeps going like he is he'll probably do well at one or both of those as they're his home rounds. He won't choke like JT did, he's been around too long for that.

I'd just love to see ol' CE get a WIN....I mean he has so many races under his belt and no victory.....must eat him inside big time

hahahaha....thanks man....thank the boys over at motogpnews.com....friggin hilarious stuff, I wish I could take credit....

I'm not sure, for the season is only half way over. I'll be rooting for him. He dose look ultra confident.

I'm a Lorenzo fan so I think (and hope) not. However i do think he can be 5th, i think he can be top American and i'd love to see him win one.

Hey Tom, don't know if you have a take on this, but as a Lorezo guy do you think he's got a confidence issue for real now...or just off the mark a bit due to the temporary pain/injury....I'd really like to see him up front again.....

I believe he will have his best MotoGP season ever as he is now in a team that treats him as the number one rider and everything is clicking for him. Plus he is no longer "Rossi's ....." like he was for the three years he was at Factory Yamaha.

I don't think he'll have his best season ever as I can't see him ever performing better than he did in 2002 in WSBK.

I think it will be a really good shot for him to be up there by the end. I for one wouldl ove to see him finally get a stinkin win cause he really deserves it after getting a pole or two and having a good race pace. It has just got to be that deep in the talent pool that even someone as good as colin is has the finishes he gets. Hope the best for him!

Yeah, wouldn't we all want that to happen!

I think Edwards is a good rider, but nothing more. He has nothing special or spectacular IMO.
I do think this could be his best season. So far he has been doing pretty well. I'd like him to win a race this season, but he will only win if the front runners have problems.

I dunno man, there was apparently a small bike problem in assen, but he wasnt happy he pretty much ran the same race as Donny from the 3rd row. I think the tell will come after the summer break. Ultimately he has nothing left to prove this year, we know what he is capabale of so all he has to do is learn all he can and be rookie of the year.

i think he could eclipse his podium total with not to much problem. i doubt a win is in the cards but if it is i'd have to say laguna is his best shot. i doubt very seriously he'll be able to overhaul lorenzo for 4th because i see jorge getting back in the groove soon. he'll best his point total.

i think hell best the point total aswell. probably get a couple more podiums this year, win? id love to see it & anything can happen out there. but even though CE is my favorite, ive got my reservations, the paddock is deep. though he also looks more capable this year than ever before, it will be a pleasant surprise if he gets a win. i dont see tech 3 having an open seat for next year though..pretty sure CE's got it sewn.

I would of said yes before reading Lex's stats. After reading them it confirmed my opinion.

Theres no rider deserves a win more than Colin, if Nicky could do it a couple times theres no reason why he shouldn't have.

I hope he does. He keeps on trying, put in his time behind Rossi and is now the top satillite rider. And he's a great interview. Laguna is probably his best shot. It would be nice to see a CLOSE race btwn him and Hayden there.
