I haven't posted on this forum in a long time, but, I'm really excited to see the upcoming 2012 season of MotoGP as it could be a pretty interesting season. So of course, I have been keeping track of MotoGP.
Getting to the point, I haven't actually talked about this to anyone before, but why do riders constantly feel that whenever they go to their home race they need to change everything about their bike to make it 'special' for the fans? Are they just trying to find another way to waste their money or something? Because as a fan of MotoGP, I would rather see the bike how it normally is, not some messed up crappy looking bike like the Repsol Honda at Aragon last year.
Now of course there are definitely some exceptions. If its a tribute such as Alvaro Bautista's bike turning into a lighter color slightly each race to honor Marco Simoncelli, it makes more sense. Or when Yamaha made a 50th anniversary livery where they turned the stripes of the bike red instead of blue (which is one of the only ones I have actually liked).
But lots of riders tend to just go and change something about their bike or helmet when they go to their home race and I don't understand why. If I was a Nicky Hayden fan (Which I'm not, isn't that Junkie or something?), I would want to see his actual red Ducati if I went to the Indianapolis race and the helmet he usually wears. I remember him changing it in Indianapolis back in 2009 or 2010, and then last year he changed the helmet again.
Its a kinda pointless topic, but am I the only one who would rather see the regular bike they usually ride unless it was a special tribute such as Bautista's case? Seems stupid to me to constantly change the livery of your bike whenever you go to your home race. There is only like 1 or 2 races a year in most countries, and probably only 1 at most that isn't ridiculously far away from you, unless you live in Spain or something.
