Triumph, Harley and BMW sales are all up similar numbers. The Rossi effect? Or the combination of a high yen and bland product offering from Japan?

From Forbes:

" What’s more, Ducati’s apparel and accessories lines also recorded a 50-percent annual increase over 2010."

Has the same increase recorded for Triumph, Harley and BMW ?!?!

No doubt VR is the most popular figure in MotoGP and MAY contribute to increase sales of Duke in US, but he has lost any motivation to ride Ducati...a sad ending story if he stay with the Italian squad, only an Aussie can ride that dog..

Yes - at least for Harley and BMW. Riders are switching from Japanese sportsbikes to European naked bikes. Ducati are selling a lot of Multistradas and Diavels. No doubt, Rossi's popularity is helping, but it's part of a global shift of motorcycle buying patterns, which in the end will endanger the future of World Superbikes.

You really think there is no connection between the two?

i think you strongly overestimate the impact a rider has on sales figures.

if we were talking yamaha in 04, i'd tend to agree with you a bit more. they also sell lots of scooters and r6s that are much more affordable for the younger riders that are more easily influenced.

Rossi will leave Ducati regardless of who is the new owner of Ducati...3-misery-year is too much to swallow. If Stoner can clinch his 3rd WC in 2012 and a good salary may make him return to good old Ducati factory....

Sure - this will happen about the same time John Lennon gets back with his ex wife.

I prefer not to go to the level of personal insults. Rossi increased Ducati sales since he joined. Fact. He can do the same with Audi. Fact. The name VR translates to billions in any form of motor vehicle manufacturer.

Rossi's impact

Ducati sales are up in the States because there are so many yuppies and trustafarian posers

riding from the condo to the sushi bar, and none of them have ever heard of Rossi. The number

of spoiled rich kids buying Ducatis has been steadily increasing since the early '80s.

And what Dave said... that the Japs haven't introduced any major changes in the liter

and 600 cc bikes in years. The bikes on which WSBK are based look pretty much the

same as they did 10 years ago. Ducati and BMW keep coming out with new models

with distinct, very much individual characters.

As someone who was a ducati fan for decades before I was a stoner fan, this is a romantic idea which has always appealed to me. He needs to beat one j.lorenzo esq who is currently leading the world championship to win the 3rd championship first. And if ducati come up with a lighter, non-stressed member perhaps even narrower angle1000cc engine rather than whatever they are running now as j4rno who is usually extremely well informed both in general and concerning matters Italian/ducati is intimating on another thread rossi's perspective may change as well; I am one stoner fan who does not think he is past it on a suitable bike.

I agree that Rossi is not past his past performances however I think you are ignoring 2 major things, 3 maybe. 1 Stoner is now off the Duc. 2. Lorenzo has already surpassed Rossi on the same machine as Rossi. 3 Pedrosa ......... maybe

2. Lorenzo has already surpassed Rossi on the same machine as Rossi.

If Rossi and Lorenzo would have ben riding the same bike, Rossi will win 8/10 racses.

If anything Rossi surpassed Stoner on the Duc, he does not crash the thing as often as Stoner did.

Bet you do, bet it's your worst nightmare. Just think of the escalation on here! ....... nuclear war man, charred corpses!

Not just rossi beating stoner would lead to a quietening on the western front as far as the bellicosity of stoner fans is concerned, or this one anyway. If jorge beats him this year it will be harder to mention stoner in any discussion involving a 7 times premier class champion. Jorge is obviously also truly excellent, but even if there ends up being any suggestion the yamaha is a little better this year for whatever reason it will be hard to sustain any argument about equipment disadvantage for stoner in his second season as the number 1 hrc rider, and defending champion to boot; in this circumstance a factory honda should be good enough, and it is probably at least partly down to the rider if this is not so.

Nonsense. Less points, lower position in the championship, no wins, only one podium. It doesn't mean stoner is better overall, but all evidence is that he is better at riding admittedly flawed ducatis; rossi himself among others has stated that it is basically impossible to replicate what stoner did to put that thing at the pointy end.

Dude, you are getting worse than Lindsey Lohans public relations manager. You may be the only human on the planet who believes Rossi's performance on the Ducati has surpassed Stoner. That is past bopper fan delusion , it's a psychosis.

I searched and searched and finally found ONE GUY who agrees with D-Evolution...
