Who can tell me about this tire?

Taking a wild guess I'd say that is the outer structure of the tire once all the rubber has been used up. It seems the Aussie guy cooked his tires in 10 laps and had nothing left for the final laps.

Hey cool pic General that is interesting wish I knew but can I make a best guess and see if I'm right, bet ya Ooost will have the answer.

Anyway I reckon its got something to do with the compounds obivously, They are running triple compond tyres these days leftside/center/rightside. this been PI and the lefthand side of the tyre its the side that gets worked hardest, so perhaps Michelin have found a better way to get durabilty and grip by mixing the componds like that in sections. It kinda makes ya think of an F1 wet tyre they say the blocks on those move around to generate heat maybe a similar principle here.

Well thats my idea of it. Now I'd really like to find out what it is.

I looked at the picture on Sunday night and wondered what it was myself. I don't think it's any crazy new technology because I didn't see it on any other bikes and Vermeulen had said he stuck with a pretty basic package from Michelin. My assumption would be that picture was taken on Friday morning and it is a cut slick or intermediate tire to get Vermeulen a bit more comfortable with the feel of the Michelin compared to Pirellis.

Purely speculation but I would assume it is some sort of cut slick or intermediate pattern. Perhaps the track was dusty or damp and Chris didn't feel comfortable on it.
