Touché as they say. Naw I just think you stuck your foot in your mouth when you said Hayden wouldn’t win another race and couldn’t weasel your way out of a bet. I see you consulted somebody with some brain cells to help you make up a witty retort. But it sure was a good one.

Hey Pete, did you know Hayden had the fastest lap in Malaysia and Qatar in 05 and Catalunya and Assen in 06? I’m not geographist, I just play one on TV, but last time I checked, these places are outside of Laguna. Now I now a fastest lap stat does not a race win make, but you gotta admit, “the Kid’s got talent.” As they say in Hollywood.

Would you bet me if I said your boy Rossi will never see the top step of a podium?

hey JUNKIE, you gonna compare Nicks 1st places, to Rossis???

I dont disagree that the kid has talent, I never have, but like you say, a fastest lap does not a race win make. Haystack is certainly one of the best out there just now, but, in myopinion, he does need to win some races to become one of the gods.

Speakin of Gods, a bet about about Rossi not seein the top step again? It would be wrong to take your money.

Jake Zemke is my favorite of your list. He reminds me so much of Hayden.

What about Tommy or Erik? What are your thoughts on Danny Eslick?

Tommy too old to start GP'ing.. although i think he's very fast..i can't see him in GP.... Danny Eslick is a good rider, but i think he needs a bit more seat time... a move to 250 GP would be great for him...

yeah i like Zemke... he rides like a MADMAN!.

the US needs to start shipping our young riders to the 250 GPs

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Yamahamer-AL @ Jan 10 2007, 01:00 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>the US needs to start shipping our young riders to the 250 GPs

Your damn right. How else are we ever gonna compete with these Euro embryos that start off on 125s and 250s. By the time the Americans make it to GP they have to take at least 3-4 years to learn the tracks.

Why do you suppose Americans don't take to the support classes in GP? They are awesome to watch and does wonders for their learning curve once up at the GP level.

I just mentioned it on another threed, but in 1983, the US had the top 4 riders. Three of which became world champions (Spencer, Roberts Sr., and Lawson) and Randy Mamola, even though he never won a title, is the most successful GP winner to have never earned a championship.

I think if you removed young fast and talented world championship riders like De puniet and replaced them with middle of the road US domestic guys it would really put things into perspective.

Also, why has nobody heard of guintoli, he has been the best 250cc privateer for a few years now and has tested yamahas m1 a few times, he shows promise and hopefull he can develop into an evern better rider, i would definately rate him a superior choice to Zemke

Umh, point well taken about removing Randy (though I must add, in my humble opinion, I think Zemke would give Rnady a run), but I wouldn't exactly call this list "middle of the road." From the above list, all have won a domestic title or been a very close runner up. And in a competative field I may add.

Oh and about Guintoli, I read his bio and frankly, I do see some promise but not overly impressed. What do you know that we don't? I mean, if he got a GP ride, he's got to be good.

I didnt mean to come accross quite so harsh on the US riders, they are of course all pretty damn good, i just think that they make less suitable candidates for G.P rides because they will need time to adapt to europena life and the new tracks before it can be seen if they can ride the bikes well or not. A european 250cc rider does not have these variables so he can concentrate only on developing his riding.

I think For riders from America to be successful over hear they usually need to come over pretty young, and stand out pretty far amongst their domestic competetion (Hayden and Hopkins).

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Racejumkie @ Jan 11 2007, 04:19 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>Hey Richo, are you referring to the time somebody said that Rossi “let” Hayden win the championship? As I recall, I think I jumped all over that thread, right? Anyway, yeah, words like “allowed” and “let” are perhaps not the best word here to describe the series of events during the Valencia race. I kinda was trying to say, as I’m sure you read how I summarized it to Baldy, that basically it didn’t just come down to those “5” points. Much more was in play. And that is my point, period. I’m not saying it wasn’t a crucial help to Hayden that Elias took it to Rossi in effect denying him those “5” points. (As a matter of fact, quite the contrary if you noticed what I’ve said in previous threads, I think that was such a pivotal moment that it instantly made me a life long Elias fan).

True, we can argue about the 5 points here, two points there, but what about the other two hunded and somthing that Hayden needed, and obtained to win the championship?

Speaking of Elias, I remember reading in some post-season interview somewhere Rossi being asked what he thought about Elias. He said somthing like "It's a bit hard to like him right now"

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Racejumkie @ Jan 11 2007, 06:26 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>Nah, man. Nobody compares to Rossi. How can you compare gods to mere mortals?

Doohan the Almighty.

Haha, that's classic.

Yes I agree, he and Ant West (
<
) have definately been contesting for the two best privateers for the last few years in the 250s. I think Sylvains nationality has alot to do with him getting the ride for the French Tech 3 Yammy team, but I do wish him the best and Im sure he would do better than Zemke ever could, simply because of his background of 125 and 250cc racing..

adds up a hopeful 16 points for Jerez, 25 for lemans, 16 for China and Laguna

Where would that have put Rossi in the championship?
<

Abd how far ahead?

I struggle to see what Ant West has actually got to offer over any other rider, to me he doesnt seem to stand out at all unless its raining, and that alone cannot get you into motogp. I dont doubt that he is a good rider, but i wouldnt think he was good enough. Afteral if i was looking to back an Australian i'd put my money with vermulen or stoner anyday. That considered, i'm not sure there is a place in motogp for Ant, especially when i feel there are better 250cc riders to be had anyway. Not to mention other sources.
