How much money is there around?
I ask because I had a totally ...... weekend at Snetterton in the superkart with 3 engine seizures. 1 was the new single ring piston picking up on a transfer port, second was the fuel pump failing (i've had 3 go in a year, yet ran the same one on my 125 for 3 years, go figure) which sent me spinning off the track at Murrarys and finally the 3rd time burnt away the exhaust side of the brand new piston. Firstly, i;ve realised that no one in superkarts who claims to be an expert has .... all idea what they are talking about and simply just have the cash to replace any parts they blow up. We run a near bog standard CR250 engine and in terms of carb settings and ignition timing have changed nothing since the start of the year, when i've been running well yet this weekend in various weather conditions the ....... engine blows up 3 times.
I'm giving it up, I'm a contract engineer and earning good money and its leaving me skint just to compete in races that the piece of .... kart wont even finish (the general concencus is that 250 superkarts are 'high maintainence' and need to be rebuilt with a lot of new parts each race). What my question is, is how can everyone else afford it? Like I say I consider myself in a well paid job but I cannot keep up financially with kids who are in university or apprentices who are paying 'teams' to give them works support or run them, where the .... do they get the money to do this? Two brothers I know who race are both in university, their dad was apparently unemployed until recently yet they turn up in a full race truck with fancy awning and are run/supported but one of the big player teams in the series who are probably charging £2000 a race for their services.
Rant over, but i'm just wondering where the .... people seem to get their money these days....
