I think you have misunderstood Capirossi's role.
He is a safety advisor to MotoGP, employed by Dorna, whose specific task is rider safety and to be the focus and act as liaison between Dorna, the riders and the tyre supplier - in this case, Bridgestone.
This is on the back of the work he did as the rider representative to the Safety Commission since 2003. During which time, he never missed a meeting or a committee. A pretty good record for 11 years and the main reason Ezpeleta appointed him.
His salary is fixed. His brief is rider safety.
He is respected by the teams, the riders, the manufacturers and Bridgestone.
His role has nothing to do with costs. Tyre costs are fixed in the fee the teams pay to IRTA (not Dorna) to compete. Those costs were negotiated between Bridgestone, IRTA and Dorna when the contract to supply was given.
I have no feeling either way as to the appropriateness of Capirossi's comments - he is a personal friend of those involved. I don't think he was speaking as a representative of Dorna.
Zoot, I haven't misunderstood it at all.
The comments with regards to costs are (as was stated from memory late last year) that his role was to be rider safety liason whjere he would work with Bridgestone to produce tyres and be consultyed on other initiatives that can impact rider safety and can be used to lower costs.
As for him being respected by riders, ask around and you may well be surprised .................... maybe as Tetsuya Harada as an example
And I will state as I have previously .......... I am not a fan of Capirossi at all so yes, my comments are tainted no doubt
