What's Wrong with the Ducati?

I think you have misunderstood Capirossi's role.

He is a safety advisor to MotoGP, employed by Dorna, whose specific task is rider safety and to be the focus and act as liaison between Dorna, the riders and the tyre supplier - in this case, Bridgestone.

This is on the back of the work he did as the rider representative to the Safety Commission since 2003. During which time, he never missed a meeting or a committee. A pretty good record for 11 years and the main reason Ezpeleta appointed him.

His salary is fixed. His brief is rider safety.

He is respected by the teams, the riders, the manufacturers and Bridgestone.

His role has nothing to do with costs. Tyre costs are fixed in the fee the teams pay to IRTA (not Dorna) to compete. Those costs were negotiated between Bridgestone, IRTA and Dorna when the contract to supply was given.

I have no feeling either way as to the appropriateness of Capirossi's comments - he is a personal friend of those involved. I don't think he was speaking as a representative of Dorna.

Zoot, I haven't misunderstood it at all.

The comments with regards to costs are (as was stated from memory late last year) that his role was to be rider safety liason whjere he would work with Bridgestone to produce tyres and be consultyed on other initiatives that can impact rider safety and can be used to lower costs.

As for him being respected by riders, ask around and you may well be surprised .................... maybe as Tetsuya Harada as an example

And I will state as I have previously .......... I am not a fan of Capirossi at all so yes, my comments are tainted no doubt

I'd be interested to read the article where Capirossi is charged with bringing down costs. In my experience that is inimical with rider safety. Feel free to post the article

As to trotting out Harada to deny Capirossi's popularity, Harada isn't in the paddock. I think his 11 years as their (elected!) safety representative shows more than some off-hand comment about a race from 14 years ago .

Just to remind you of what really happened at Argentina in 1998: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X47sTzsInOg

The stewards investigated - no fault found - a racing incident.

No doubt Harada is bitter - he lost the world championship. If you are intimating he has poisoned the rest of the paddock for an event that happened before most of them first threw a leg over a bike, I think you are grasping at straws.

Maybe you might be wrong? Just throwing it out there...

Never said an article but recall it being mentioned in reports dating back to the end of the season 2011.

Wow, 11 years as an elected representative where a few riders have refused to attend meeting that Capirex was hosting given that 'they were not listed to on issues of safety'

I know of politicians who have been in parliament for years and yet many within the public (their constituents) do not respect them.

Nope wrong.

The stewards investigated and imposed a loss of points on Capirossi

He appealed and won the appeal thus gaining his point back and obtaining the World Championship.

Never suggested it, you decided to read into it what you want just as you have done on other forums.

Capirossi is well liked as a person, certainly amongst many in the paddock (Stoner rates him as amongst his best team mates for example), but that is at a personal level, in this role he is yet to be assessed.

And hell yes I have been wrong in the past as I do not profess myself to be the purveyor of all knowledge, but have you also ever considered alternate views?

Nope wrong.

Not exactly how it happened... and the net result was exactly how I described it - no fault found, a racing incident.

"The FIM Stewards at the Argentine Grand Prix have accepted the protest by Harada and Capirossi has been stripped of the 20 points and disqualified from the Argentine GP, but, as stated above, this does not change the outcome of the battle for the title. Capirossi is World Champion on the basis of the points that he had after the Australian GP. Capirossi has appealed and the FIM will review the appeal."

His appeal was successful, hence, as I said, no fault found - a racing incident.

but have you also ever considered alternate views?

All the time, but only correct ones.

All the time, but only correct ones.

So why post here at all as it seems you feel that everyone with an alternate view is wrong?

You wish to assert that the Capirossi incident was a racing incident, well all good but IMO it was not, it was deliberate and petulant (not to mention dangerous) and IMO again a person who is prepared to undertake that activity is no person to be admired (and this is not the first time I have stated as much)

But then, I am wrong aren't I?

By the way, how am I wrong as you have stated that he did indeed lose points which is exactly as I said.

Capirossi appealed the original decision ........... which is exactly as I said and nowehere do I say that it was these points that won him the WC

And yet I am wrong .......................

So why post here at all as it seems you feel that everyone with an alternate view is wrong?

Not at all, alternative views are what makes things progress, but not all alternative views are credible or worthwhile. Some people think they should be able to marry their dog... not something I give a lot of credence to, but if that's what they want, fine. Is it worthy of spending time pondering or should we just consign it to the 'looney' bin? Some people think that Muslims are all bloodthirsty killers that want nothing more than the coming of the next worldwide Caliphate... again, not seriously to be entertained. And some think that a racing incident from 1998 is relevant in a discussion of Capirossi's role as Safety Advisor to MotoGP in 2012.

By the way, how am I wrong as you have stated that he did indeed lose points which is exactly as I said.

Did I say you were wrong? Perhaps you could point out where I said that. What I did say was that it is not exactly as you stated. It seems like this has degenerated into a hair splitting contest. If that's what you want, carry on.

If you really think that Capirossi's actions in 1998 affect his role as Safety Advisor then please, bring some evidence to bear.

Cool, so now I am associated with people who want to marry dogs, think that Musl;ims are bloodthirsty killers etc all because my opinion does not meet that of yours.

But, FWIW, you tell me why Capirossi's past it is not relevant (and please read my response to the next quote)

Nope, you alluded or implied it sure, but not said it outright, so am I right with what I said?

I suppose I assume you think I am right or worthy in some way as you keep replying

Why and what evidence do I need - it is simply my opinion to which I am entitled (as are you to yours that it owuld not affect his approach)

A person convicted or a serious crime is always tainted are they not?

Should a person convicted of paedophilia in 1980 be able to work in childcare in 2012 because time has past?

<I admit the comparison is extreme but is an example for discussion>

At the risk of putting the thread somewhere near back on topic.

Discussion are underway to bring Stoner's crew back to Ducati to team up with Dovi. At least according to MCN twitter.

Cool Friz and I reckon the Ducati guys should chase Gabbarini and Co heavily, as after all has it not been said that VR will take his crew whilst MM will bring his to MGP, thus leaving the most successful Ducati team of all MGP time (had to get that in

) unemployed?

I said it elsewhere, if Ducati cannot get back the only rider who could ride the Desmosedici real fast, at least they should get back the team that knew how to set it up best.

Looks like the bike will have a new chassis and swingarm for the next race and they are also back to the original schedule. Nicky may also be back for the next race.

It would be hilarious if this was the missing link!!!

And it gave duc a 1-2.

I for one would piss my pants laughing!!!

Rossi was saying the new frame bits make the bike more consistent over a long run, not as much tire drop off. It will be interesting to see if this is true, becasue the Duc's get off the line and run near the front till about half distance where they start dropping off. If they can maintain that pace, Crutch and Dovi will possibly be fighting with two Ducs the whole race.

If Ducati introduce some motor tweeks, with more linear throttle response, we could very well see some dry 3rd place finishes for the Duc in the last few rounds?
