After Misano, I am uprating my opinion of Stoner even further.

On another forum I found posted by J Forrest the following facts

Riders who have won 8 or more races in a season-

Doohan
Rossi
Agostini
Hailwood
Stoner

If this is true, I think it would be fair to put Stoner in the "great" category of riders already. After only 2 seasons in the premier class.

Amazing.

..........and yet there are still some who doubt ...........Dion, an4rew

Nice post Bunny... I wasn't aware of this myself!

That's pretty heady company there!

Anyway, for further comparative purposes between Vale & Casey... they each crashed a number of times in their debut season in the top class & if things continue to go Casey's way for the next couple of races then they will each have won the championship in their second season.

That too speaks volumes...

And by the way, Rossi's 2001 Honda NSR500 was no slouch either! Widely regarded as being the pinnacle of evolution in the 500cc V4 GP bike & this was the machine that gave Vale his first premier class title after he'd already spent the previous season getting used to it...

Casey's 2007 effort compares favourably, with him leaving LCR at the end of last year & having to deal with a new bike, new tyres & new team all at once!
<

Luckily for him it's all "gelled" & he's doing the business... now all he has to do is repeat it for the next few years in order to put all the naysayers back in their respective places... I for one hope that he does it!

I posted this on one of the other forum topics but it's more appropriate here. Here's what someone who actually knows something about MotoGP thinks;

Paul Denning - Team Manager (Suzuki):

"Rizla Suzuki would also like to congratulate Casey Stoner on another unbelievable performance today. There has been a lot of nonsense spoken in MotoGP this year regarding tyre regulations, engine performance, etc. etc. I believe that the difference at the moment is Casey and we're focusing our best efforts to improve our own performance to beat him and that's what everybody should be doing at this time!"

That about sums it up for me!

I'll put my hand up and say I was one of those people who believed that Stoner would be found out as the season went on and that Rossi would beat him. I knew Stoner was fast and his falling off in 2006 didn't exactly make me think that this year he would be running away with the title. But Casey has shown he is a great rider and he has handled the pressure extraordinarily well.

As to whether Casey is better than Vale, it's too early to tell. Vale is argubly the greatest rider of all time. In ten years time, when Casey is just retired or nearing retirement, we can then decide who is the best - was Casey a one championship wonder or a multiple champ like Vale? I would guess that he may win 2 or 3 but the competition is getting so hot that it may be difficult for one rider to dominate like Vale has for a number of years.

Steve

One of the best posts Ive read on here lately.

Nice one

Not ten years, next year Melandri will be on a Ducati.
