The only place you would ever see a Suomy over here was at most Ducati shops. I had acouple of friends that owned one but never bought another. Not sure why?!!! I really like the "neil hodgson" paint but none fit me.

Sad to see a company try to break into the american market only to fail.

I own a Suomy and absolutely love it. It's too bad Suomy USA shut down, but to my knowledge they will continue to be imported into the states, it will just be more difficult to get any support for them. You can find really good deals from sellers on ebay, generally around $150 or $200 USD under the MSRP.

Really a great helmet. Very light, comfortable, excellent graphics, good ventilation. My only complaint is the "locking" mechanism to keep the shield in the up position does not handle highway speeds (60+ mph) very well. Other than that, couldn't be happier with the purchase. In fact, am in the process of shopping for a new passenger helmet and will likely make it a Suomy. All the looking has got me thinking the dangerous thought: "What would be so wrong with owning two helmets?"

couple of my friends have em. always wanted one and probably will get one when i purchase the next bike in a couple months
NOTHING wrong with dos helmets though

GOOD,Serves them right. The sorry .......s have the worst customer service on the planet.I bought a brand new spec 1r and the first time i wore it,both side plates blew off.I contacted Suomy USA by phone and got a recording twice and sent more emails than i can count with ZERO replys. The brand new helmet sits in my closet because out of principle,i refuse to pay 70.00 dollars to replace the plates. It is the best looking helmet i have ever seen and the finish is superb but it fits a specific shaped head [square].This helmet seems more head shape specific than most.It is a very light helmet compared to say a Shoei. If anyone out there has a contact at Suomy, please pass on my plight.

most definitely!

yeah they have crappy service so that is why I never bought one. I went with AGV since they are very well made and plus I like the way it fits on my head vs. the other ones I tried. Oh yeah they are Italian made to so that helps a bit.

You aren't the only one to state this, but your post was the latest

What kind of "service" is it that you are all looking for from a helmet supplier?
<

I have bought Nolan's, Bieffe's, AVG's and, over the last 15 years, a series of Arai's. I have never needed "more service" from a helmet manufacturer than to make a helmet that fits my head and then sell that model/size in black.

When it gets old and saggy (every 4-5 years or so) I buy a new one. This is recommended by the manufacturers as the shell and the padding age over time/use and significantly reduce the "head saving performance", which has to be a bad thing should you ever have to rely on it.

That's my thought process. Come to think of it, I'm in line to get a new lid in a year or so.

The AGV/Laser distributor for the States was here in Fort Collins. I got to see all of their returns and buy from the "Scratch and Dents" It was amazing what problems (mostly the vents, falling off or bubbles in the stickers and facesheild mechs not working). Thier had to have been well over a hundred helmets that arrived on one of my visits.
<

The phone rang off the hook. The calls went like this "I'm not sure if it will fit like your old helmet" "this facesheild will only fit these two models" "yes, it has the #46 on the back" and they went on and on. All I could hear was either the lady talking or the phone ringing.

I have a couple of friends that have Arai helmets and when they have had a problem [air vents coming off, edge trim coming loose, etc] Arai has been johnny on the spot with customer service.I currently own a Shoei X11 and have had no problems,so i cant tell you what their Customer service is like.I can, however say with conviction, that Suomy's customer service SUUUUUCKS.Its no wonder they went under.I would have prefered they got back to me the next day and said .... You,we are not replacing the pieces that blew off your new helmet. That would have been better than being ignored.

I can back you up on that one man. I had a Shoei for a number of years (RF900) and then bought my current helmet which is a Arai Quantum, which is easily the best helmet I've ever owned bar none. But I did have an issue fitting a new shield, I broke a small part on the latch by accident.....Arai customer support basically asked no questions, told me that I should have no issues and they sent me a replacement latch for nothing. not bad.
