<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Austin @ Aug 27 2008, 09:35 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>Exactly why Spies needs to get out of the states, even if it is to WSB. Although talent wise it is likely a step sideways, it is far deeper and far more demanding.

I'm less and less convinced. If DMG offer him big guaranteed money, why in the hell would he go ride for a satellite team or even a WSBK team.

If DMG revitalize advertising revenues in American motorcycling, there going to need a lightning rod to pass all of that money to.

Satellite MGP rides and WSBK rides are definite routes to failure. If you wanna win a MotoGP crown, I wouldn't accept either.

Take the money, ride in America, retire with rockstar status even if the rest of the world acknowledge it.

He could make a lot of money here in states but if he really wants to win a MotoGP world championship he needs to move. He's only 22 or 23 but the longer he stays away, the more his value is going to drop. There are inherent risks with joining a satellite GP team but if he has the talent then it will shine through no matter the team and he can parlay that into a factory ride. Just like Dovi is doing this year, and like Melandri has done in years past.

It's a risk but I think it's a necessary one. If he fails, AMA/DMG will still be there waiting to hand him a big check to come back.

Factor in the possibility of major rule changes in Moto GP next year (ie - tire rule) and the competitiveness of satellite teams could hypothetically be on par with factory teams next year. The unknown, in regards to expected rule changes, has got to put a guy like Spies in a tough position when it comes to deciding. Next year might be a good year to ride on a satellite team, you may not be winning the championship, but you can impress enough to pick up a factory ride the next year.

I just read where Suzuki is down playing Dovi negotiations. Denning and company want to low ball Vermi out of Motogp and Pay $$$ for Dovisioso. Dovi acknowleging that they are in talks kinda throws a monkey wrench into that.....

Anyone else notice that?

YEs and if your reading the same .... I am then you'll also notice they want a 3rd bike as well. ALL I AM SAYING IS GIVE SPIES A CHANCE!!! LOL

Dude, If they run a third bike and Spies is not on it. Suzuki will foever be out as far as my support goes. Spies can ride and should have the chance to prove he can tussle with the "big boys" as Hayden would say.

Next year is shaping up to be interesting. I hope that Spies come to Motogp, Mladin goes to WSBK and AMA fractures....(oops... I didn't mean to say that).

Just red that bit myself, and had this funny thought. What IF?? When all is settled, Repsol Honda find themself out in the COLD!! Meaning nobody wants their second seat due to the pedrosa/puig BS. Man I tell you all, I would be laughing my ... off all thru the season.

Who saw Spies this weekend at Road Atlanta.Holy ....,he put on a riding clinic. In the first race,he was holding up his hands to delay the start [bike problem] and was ignored by race officials. As he was trying to get there attention his bike rolled across the line and they said he fouled. He had to do a drive thru which put him at the back of the field. With the possibility of his title going up in smoke,he came thru the field to finish second, turning faster lap times than Mladin.Sunday,he was instructed to just take second place points and not risk the title, and that appeared what he was going to do.With 10 laps to go and over 3 seconds down,he said screw it,he cut 1 second a lap out of Mladin on three laps and passed Mladin on the back wheel coming over wheelie hill at 160+ and had a tank slapeer going on at the same time.He kept it pinned, made the pass and pulled away to a seven second win.All in 10 laps.Mat Mladin is a world class rider that many say, could and should have given GP a second chance.Spies is ready for Gp.Those were a magical last 10 laps of that race, his crew chief was screaming for him to stay with the plan but i guess he didnt want Mladin to break his consecutive win streak and he didnt want to leave the AMA without a win at Road Atlanta.

Lexi you want to reconsider that statement?

Was Rossi's 2000 ride for Nastro Azzurro Honda a satellite team? Repsol Honda had Criville & Okada in 2000. Rossi beat both of them in the championship. that year.

Casey Stoner's 2006 Satellite Honda lead to not only a factory Ducati ride but a world title.

As far as WSBK, well Chris Vermeulen's 2nd in the 2005 WSBK championship is what earned him his seat on the factory Suzuki MotoGp machine.

Three recent examples of them not being routes to failure but stepping stones to better and bigger possibilities. If you have the talent.

It wasn't really satellite though was it when he had the best equipment, full HRC support, Jerry Burgess and the best team in the sport, and development input.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Tom @ Sep 2 2008, 06:37 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>It wasn't really satellite though.

It is either a satellite team or a factory team.

Shinya Nakano is riding for a satellite team this year. He may have more of a factory bike than a satellite customer bike but he is still riding for Gresini not Repsol Honda? I get what your saying though Tom.

Same for Rossi in 2000.
Wouldn't have mattered what he was on, it was never a route to failure.

You are right, it was not a satellite team at all. The staff was all official HRC and the support was complete.

Whoops...

What was I thinking...
Anyways.... Yes. I read that Vermi has signed the deal to stay with Suzuki.
Canepa to the Factory World Superbike Ducati, Biaggi to Aprillia and Spies on the Honda.

Can anyone confirm CVerm has signed.Denning wants him back but the decision is ultimatley up to the factory boss and they have been dragging their feet with the approval.I hope he is signed,he is as deserving as any other rider outside the top 5.

I definitely like and welcome the prospects of having a bigger grid overall. The grid just seems really small at the moment.

Read this morning in Gazzetta dello Sport, Italy's top sports newspaper that Nicòlò Canepa has signed with the Alice Ducati team for next year. The kid is only 20yrs old.

This is another Moto gp seat that has been assigned...

Spots are running out...
